Are YOU Working the Dream?

Walk in Beauty
DRSES

Zorbas Greek Restaurant in Tarpon Spings Jazzed it...

Velvet
and the smooth sounds of the sax
performed last night
at our local Tarpon Springs
ZORBAS Taverna and Nightclub
and
OHHH mercy, does that child have some pipes that are "rich and off the hook"!
Walking in the door,
my first sight was of
the one and only
New York Jets
Superbowl winner of times gone by
#45
Earl Christy and the sounds of
Velvet
and I was so amazed i had to lean against the rail!
The owner walked over and said,
"Dr Showalter, how nice to see you!"
and
I was still trying to get my thoughts together;
"Earl Christy of the Jets? These sounds of Velvet? Tarpon Springs?
Really?
The owner greets me, and is with a smile as big as tomorrow?
Really?
Oh it was a lovely evening to be sure!
A bear hug from Earl Christy and an evening with a Super Bowl Jet on top of everything else, and an autograped football for
D'Vante too?
WOW I am still dancing to the smooth sounds of Velvet today!

I mean this woman has a sound and rich voice that one must hear to appreciate,
and what a delightfully enjoyable evening!
Soon to be made even better if one can imagine, when joined by a warrior of this page; a survivor, and lovely Tarpon Springs couple that are known to many!
Ms Vicki Cone and Matthew arrived to hugs, and we had the best of times,
I even grabbed Earl's hat so we could get a photo together!

Oh we had a time!
Darn, should have tried to add that hat to my own collection now that I think about it!
Velvet sang, oh did she sing her songs... she sang
AMAZING GRACE
and you could hear a pin drop,
acappella...
she sang some of Whitney Houston, she probably could sing the phone book; she has talent, passion and did I mention PIPES?
Oh and the best part yet?
She will be singing at
Zorba's in Tarpon every
Sunday evening from 5-8pm
on Jazz night!
I'm thinkin I'm goin to spread the word and get some folks together for an evening gather of jazz and good times!
As I'm talking to Earl, we talk about great times, old times, important things in life. As he is telling me of his faith, friends, beliefs; he points across the room to a gentleman and starts to tell me who he is... and what an impact he has had on Earl's life. I'm listening and look and stop him dead in his words!
Earl! That is Father Ron! I KNOW HIM FROM HOSPICE, we used to work together my friend... haha
With that, I have to excuse myself and go see an old friend, embracing him and saying,
"Oh Father Ron, how wonderful to see you again! and it's so great to see a Father hanging out in a nightclub!!!"
We had a lovely conversation, and he is truly a marvelous man!
Oh the people you see and the Universal connection of spirit!
...
Now as for an evening of
Earl Christy?
That man has more energy than one can imagine!
He's as fierce today as when he was playin football back in the day I tell you!
As Velvet sang,
Earl and I took to the dance floor
and ohhh boy,
a chance for a video was sure missed by DLB and Ms. Vicki it was!
Cos Earl and I cut the hardwoods apart we did
as
Velvet moved us to our feet
and
we "tore it up" together on that floor!
Thanks Earl Christy,
and
thanks Velvet!
oh lawd have mercy,
you filled my soul last night
right here in little
Tarpon Springs!
...
The blessings are all around us,
and last evening
while Velvet was singing,
while we were visiting,
and thinking it just can't get any better than this...
another gentleman in the room, took the mic over for a few songs.
His silky soul voice just made ya want to drop your drink and sway!
Yes he was just that good!
He later took to the dance floor after delighting us all with that silky voice of his, with Matthew lookin on!

Have I been transported to a world of smooth jazz to places I've never been while living here or what?
Oh what a joyful evening here at the sponge docks with great folks indeed!
....
Yes it is a marvelous Monday as we dance on the deck of life
while I think of last evening
here in our little community
of
Tarpon Springs FL USA!
Where the jazz and a woman with some pipes that I've not heard the likes of since living here just filled me up last night as the one and only Earl Christy and I took that dance floor with some stylin!
Ohhh my, sure wish we had the video to make ya jump to your feet today...
Earl's just smooth, there is no other word for it!

Wherever you are,
whatever you are doin,
Listen to some sweet sweet music
tap your feet,
hug U
and let the music move YOU
today!

blessings on the breeze dear ones.

VA TECH... what were you thinking

VA TECH
and the atheletic director
Mr Weaver after meetings behind closed doors with Tom Gabbard in Atheletics last week
fires the basketball coach
with NO notice;
 yes FIRES
a man who has given them 9 years
buillt on faith, trust, family, integrity.
Seth Greenberg, the coach of men's basketball at VA Tech,
was
blind-sided, fired by the powers that be, behind his back,
"SHAME ON YOU" Mr Weaver and your powers that be...
for treating a man of integrity with such dishonor and disrespect.
Seth Greenberg, loved in the community, by his players, by VA Tech;
the second most winning coach,
FIRED without warning, without thought to what it would do to him, physically, spiritually, emotionally, without regard to the community, to the players, to kids...
What were they thinking?
the sports worlds, the Washington Post, many others are weighing in,
all seem to agree that this move was tasteless and a first in lack of style or class.
"Just When was the last time that someone scheduled a news conference to fire a coach — hollering  it all over social meidia sights to make sure the entire world knew about it — without first bothering to tell the coach being fired?"
As Coach Seth was interviewing a prospect, attending a luncheo this occured at a fast flash news conference called by Weaver .
A first to be certain on lack of class and a new low standard and speaks volumes for Mr Weaver and unfortunatley for VA TECH
don't ya think?.
He lifted VA TECH
and
yes, there was still work to be done.
This man deserved better;
one cannot say they base a campus on values of family, of integrity, of principle, of hard work
 and then act this way.
You just cannot go about talking about family, bonds of caring community and then make such a brazen cold blooded calculating move, without it demonstrating who you really are and what you really stand for.
Jim Weaver and Gabbard are now transparent,
both cold and calculating in their latest epiphany
and in the desire to win at all costs, have it both ways,
yet it just may be that they have yet to realize the true cost in community, the sports arena, and the Nation that is watching.
OK, maybe Seth was fiery, was passionate, was not an "aw shucks", "gee golly" sort of guy,
and demanded hard work, setting high standards!
That very passion made him go for it, as did his players.
Yes others were let go, were fired, but they were talked to prior to it happening. Can't take the heat?
What they did was plain out
WRONG.

BUT
this move on the part of Weaver and Gabbard;
this sudden throw coach off the bus and run over him move
was just wrong,
it has set a message that will in fact and has
gone beyond Weaver's immediate short term greed, lack of loyalty and disrespect.
He has made his colors now be known over the wild and wonderful world of the cyber community as well.
Karma baby, won't take long for this one Weaver and cronies;
but oh what have you done for the future little Hokies and all those supporters of the Athletic Department NOW?

Wonder if he even considered or has yet some other facts.
No I am NOT stretching here.

These players; some will go on to greatness in the NBA;
many are tremendous players, some are cocky, yes.
but
did you know that each summer,
under the direction and leadership of
SETH GREENBERG
there is a camp for kids there at
VA TECH
a basketball camp that kids get all excited about participating in each year.
One that is led by coach, players of the Hokies show out, they inspire and are with those little kids there as they play basketball; dreams are fulfilled there on that court.
Little Hokies
in the making.
Kids that perhaps work harder in school in order to attend each year, parents that may take on part-time jobs, or grandparents that fund the expense to send kids to that campus for the opporunities to attend that
Hokie Camp for those future
HOkies or VA Tech future students.
...
focus is taught, determination is shown, compassion and competition are shown to co-exist.
Can you imagine the future without
dreams?
THE CAMP IS NOW CANCELLED.
Hey Mr Weaver
did you factor that in?
Without Seth, there is no freaking camp, did you account for who would have the passion, the compassion, the forsight for your future players to ensure the kids would be able to continue the tradition that Seth set up for the continuation with your hasty decisions on that one?
You want to give them the news ?
To see the disappointment on the faces of your next generation of Hokie Stars
or students there?
Where is the vision/mission
of
VA TECH

Coach Seth Greenberg and Kamryn
...
Greenberg has a career record of 383-293 in 22 seasons as a collegiate head coach and a 170-123 record in nine seasons at Virginia Tech. Prior to this season, the Hokies had made five consecutive postseason appearances and had six total postseason appearances during his tenure. As a two-time ACC Coach of the Year, his teams earned first-round byes four times at the ACC Tournament.
...
Yep, just the man with values, respect, integrity and honor to have someone run over him with a bus, and keep the change.
Imagine for a moment,
Kamryn's face, heart and mind racing to keep up with the news;
"there will be NO camp this year"
Coach Seth is no longer at VA Tech and they said that they don't know if they will have camp again for the kids as it was (his thing). No son, you may never get to see him again, nor benefit from his helping you on the court, I know you are disappointed too.
...
Maroon Monsoon HOKIES
...
I'll pray for you
Seth Greenberg
and
I thank you for all that you've given
VA TECH with passion, fire, compassion and honor.
I thank you for taking the time to teach and reach our kids,
as you stepped up and out
to see the promise of tomorrow with honoring their dreams
while recognizing that dreams are the things that make for the next
Michael Jordon
the next Einstein
and the next VA TECH student
win/lose/tie.
I am so sorry that you have been dishonored in such a horrific way.
I am so sad for our children who now sit with such unexplainable disappointment
as we attempt to explain this.
Shoot the hoops dear ones... you gotta keep the faith while knowing that sometimes things are just wrong...
The firing of a man like
Seth Greenberg
was one of those very wrong things.
and its impact is yet to be completely felt,
but oh how I would love for Mr Weaver to have to look in the eyes of all the kids
who now are hearing the news
of dreams and hopes being dashed
and parents who pay and support
the athletic department of VA TECH
locally and from a distance
including this Godmother
from Florida
who is spreading the word
and thinking beyond the moment.

Prayers goin up today
for:
those of us who wonder where did
April go so quickly;

the players of TECH
the children who are the future of our world, the students preparing to graduate high school and the new chapters of their lives,
the parents who are crying,

Seth Greenberg and family, Eileen D. and family, Steve and family, Anne, A, Sandy, "EI", Kev, Chris,

Lyle Emerson and his family in Buffalo and little Kendra 3 years old who is fighting Lymphoblastic Leukemia,

gone tooo soon,
and
for
our President and his family
of our United States of America,

and their families,

Wishin you a delicious Day

Kamyrn and D'Vante
tore into some fresh cupcakes while they were here!
That's the kinda day I'm wishing for you all!
A day of sweetness, a day of tasting wonderment all around you!
Go for it friends!
Full tilt out there, with gusto
wherever you are!
A good ole cupcake in one hand, cold glass of milk in the other,
and a day of absolute joy
in all you are doing!
this is a day for
excitement and dancing in the streets!
Just don't get run over by some crazy person who is trying to outrun the next full moon with their moods while they are putting on make-up or checking their texts on the phone or reading the newspaper while driving!
Count your blessings today,
smile at everyone you happen to pass by, and those who have a walk through your mind!
If you read the blogs of the last few days you will remember that today is the birthday celebration of our reader here known as OshKosh up there in Oklahoma;
so join me in wishing her a
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAY OSH!
It's Motown celebration style tonight and there is one high stylin party goin on for her!
We are wishin her some joyful noise up there!
I'm already listening to some fine music, got my feet tapping, the babies are celebrating here, with their bark and their
NASCAR race round the pool!
It is a fine day to be alive and absorb all that the Creator has blessed us all with!
Thank YOU Creator for all your gifts.

Here's a picture of Patti Labelle I took as she reminds us
"When you've been blessed", it is indeed like heaven;
so today
PASS IT ON
friends; just pass it on.
With each step you take, each breath you inhale and exhale, think of someone, something greater than yourself, and get out of you; and do some good deeds for another.
YOU are changing the world with one smile, one action, one step at a time.
So today,
I'll get your motor running with Rod and that good ole
Motown Song!

We'll leave the stresss to the media, while we send messages to our brain of what we want there
how bout that for a weekend?

MS AWARENESS MONTH ... HAPPENING ALL OVER THE PLACE!

Laura Roorda
"a HUG at the finish line"
where daughter Shauna
finishes the
Lone Star MS 150
riding 189 miles in two days!
Congratulations Shauna, Dixie
and all those who rode for the cure
once again!
The hug?
Priceless.
The emotion seen here after riding again winds of more than 30 mph, the strain, the pain, the struggle... akin to one who walks with a disease known as MS daily.
the time is now
for everyone to get involved,
to
STAND UP to this disease called
MS.
Shauna, rider 133
there were 13,000
riders!
400,000 Americans have MS,
another American is diagnosed every HOUR
Many are joining the fight to fund research to find a cure!
WILL YOU TAKE A STAND
Awareness is the first step,
and then
Standing to run MS
out with the Cure is then next.
Laura and all the others with MS
and those who love them... hear me now,
Many, many
folks are talking, walking, running, washing cars, having bake sales, yard sales, and hollering from the mountains and the oceans...
WE ARE STANDING.

Motown is about to take over Oklahoma!

M O T O W N
oh yea, there's a party gettin ready to go on in Oklahoma on Saturday
and one of our readers here is gettin their groove on,
ready to celebrate her birthday
by
"dancin in the streets"
to all the hits of Motown!
With friends and relations they will gather
and shake their booties, do the shimmy shimmy, the slide, the funky chicken, and bop to the sounds and the funk of the greatest singers and sounds ever
and Oklahoma will never be the same!
From the pews and from gospel, from Mahalia to uncle Ray Charles to Detroit and the Motor City, and
MOTOWN
soul was given sound and rhythm and blues
and dance was on!
Oh the sounds, the joy, the dance!
Bring it back, play it loud!
I felt so honored that the birthday woman
known as "Oshkosh" invited to fly me to OK to participate in the party goin on
celebrating her birthday
Motown style!
Astonished but honored indeed!
If I weren't doing a speaking engagement, I would have been on that plane in a NY minute with my swag on,
to dance to the sounds of Motown and raise a glass and toast this most generous soul filled woman!
I can only imagine; a room filled with laughter, the dance moves that will be goin on... "Bust a move dear ones" up there in OK, a state I just love to visit and speak in!
Oh can you imagine the times being held on Saturday there?
Good times, great music, memories, food/drink
and celebrations!
It just can't get much better than that
I'm thinkin.
As we end the week talking about
"Stand by Me"
a week of being there when possible, of sending thoughts through the universal connection of energy, of good deeds, thoughts and the universal connection that weaves such a magnificent tapestry through the music...
What music, messages, sound
Motown gifted us with through the years.
I remember trying to make a flight in Detroit last year, and found the
"Motown store" in the airport!
Oh I felt like I had hit pay dirt, as I shopped and gazed and found a wall covered with photos and autographs there!
I was like a kid in a candy store; gazing at Diana Ross, Little Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Gladys and the Pips, Lionel Richie, and more... their pictures and signatures there, t-shirts, sweats, everything you could imagine and the eyes to feast on... while hearing the songs, having a sensory moment down memory lane!
It was off the hook!
American Bandstand; Dick Clark, The SouuuLLL Train; Don Corneilus Motown <<< Berry Gordy<<<
Oh lawd,
remember when Diana Ross would hog the stage and push the supremes out of her way with that hair?
and when she just got known as the "B", yet a childhood friend said that success didn't do that to her; she was a "B" before that!
Oh goodness the years, the stars, the days when they took the stage with such amazing moves, with clothes on even, and their pipes is what was the true sound and event, the dance was what was seen;
lyrics were actually understood without straining or need for interpretations.
I miss that!
almost too many greats to name here, the songs all blend into a tapestry so colorful and rich in texture it just colors my brain so I wish i was hooked to an MRI machine so I could view it!
Mary Wells to the Supremes to Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, the pips and Gladys, the Marvelettes, temptations, four tops, ohhh goodness someone stop me... the Isley Brothers, Prentenders, Spinners, David Ruffin, Marvin and Tammy, Jackson 5, Lionel Richie (now puttin out a country CD) go figure, his voice still rich as velvet...
Remember the platforms, the bell bottoms, the afros, and madras plaid?
Groups that danced in sync; finger pops, swings and horns with percussion,
James Brown and his caped self being ushered off the stage and that lime green jump suit?
Otis Redding, Wicked Wilson Pickett?
stop me!

Cool, groovey, outta sight,
can ya dig it, far out, right on, jeeepers creeepers, backatcha, flip me out, funky, freak me out, give me the skinney, don't bogart that joint, May the force be with you, keep the faith, keep on truckin, keep the petal to the metal, loo-ooking goo-ood,
awe sooky sooky, ace,be there or be square, BAD,
AND ALL THOSE THINGS!!!
Remember?
The "hustle" the "bump" the "funky chicken"
the "YMCA" the "hully gully", the "slow drag", the "stroll"!!
What am I forgetting here?
Oh I'm on a roll a rip and a tear today,
the music is rocking the fur off the 4 leggeds I might just add!
Can YOU hear me all the way to Oklahoma and the Motor City and even out in Walsenburg CO today even in Philly and DC I'm wondering?
wow, I'm "filled with rhythm soul and blues"
and not even thinkin of taking a
Midnight Train To Georgia!

Yep, there's a party in the makin Motwon style in Oklahoma Motown style alright;
that's waht's happenin up there in the state of Oklahoma this weekend,
and
to you
Osh Kosh, I wish you a birthday to remember starting right NOW,
Motown to fill your feet and soul as you get on that floor and dance your butt off!
May your loved ones, friends, family both here and on the other side join you with great times, laughter, and you all just party all night and let the good times roll!
For the rest of you?
Join with me in wishing a great woman of spirit, courage, and filled with music
by celebrating your life today and this weekend!
Crank up your music, live like their is no tomorrow, step out of your comfort zone
and
DANCE, LAUGH til your sides ache!
Here's you some music to get your feet tapping no matter where you are today,
and get your groove on!
Get your hairbrush, your feet ready to tap, your rat tail combs, and let's boogie down!

oohhh baby baby, I just feel the music of Motown seeping in my pours and through the miles of neurotransmitters here;
I got my grin on, my attitude on, my wise self just filled with spirit,
think I might just have to find myself
Sittin by the Dock of the Bay
before this day is done!

so much so, that...

I'm dancing in the streets for My girl up there in OKlahoma and all you have to ever do is Reach Out and I'll Be There friends. You never have to wonder when you have friends about What's goin on or
 Where did our Love Go,
you won't have to sing Michael Jackson's song, I want you back
cos you will know deep in your heart that
There ain't no mountain high enough!
What's goin on will be danced to and some may voice certain Superstition as others wait at the mailbox afterwards for news of the events from loved ones and holler,
Please Mr Postman, while wondering if it's
JUst My Imagination,
yes some still use snail mail or not!
My Guy only texts these days, yes
Love is like a heat wave ,and some are,
 Uptight (forgetting) everything's alright,
and they will still want or need to ask
Do You Love Me, from time to time.
You may want a wingman, or someone to ride Shotgun along your journey and feel some Baby Love while remembering that Papa was a rolling Stone,
 and reassuring those trusted friends
 I'll be there!
And, just to keep it real, cos that's how I roll,
I can't help myself Suga Pie Honey Bunch,
sometimes you need to
 STOP in the name of Love;
cos in life there will be some Tears of A Clown When there's no one around.
True that,
 Ain't Nothin Like the Real thing;
and to live fully, life really can getcha to say,
You've really Got a Hold On Me
and there are times you might want to know no one is an island and we all need;
 Baby I need your lovin!
You are the sunshine of my Life
 friends
(ohhh how the top 100 Motown hits are coursing through my brain today, filling me with spirit).
Money, that;s what I want
remember that one?
Oh Smokey would say to me,
 I second that Emotion
while the Godsons and Olivia would jump right in and wonder when will it be Signed Sealed Delivered!
The would indeed be
ON cloud Nine and I of course,
 A Ball of Confusion
