Pulaski Health and Rehab Center

where she now works!

Nope

that's not Cuzzie in the middle

with the grin *nope that not her*

Cuzzie,

Director Angie Loy is the one on the right!

She is lovin life with her residents and colleagues 

in

Pulaski VA

a little town in Southwest VA.

In the heart of New River Valley;

and

she has a new

and exciting plan of action

or

an

IDEA

if you will

of ways to engage and entertain the residents through more stories and photographs by taking them on virtual trips

through and with others.

C'mon warriors

let's share around the world

take folks on a journey from their chairs and beds

there in Pulaski VA

with my cuzzie

by sending postcards and notes

to them

imagine

the sensory experiences that can be gained...

Folks from around the world

who will send a postcard(s) from their homes

or places of interest

that Cuzzie Director

will then share with the residents

and

read the messages on the backs of those cards

and

then they will place them on a big ole' board

for the community to see!

AND

"all here and your friends from all around the world

can say you helped to make joy and fun"

happen in a special place for special folks

 in southwest Virginia...

This page is read by folks all around the world

and

we are indeed a page of

wonderful warriors here.

I know that many of you read but do not comment often,

but

often I get emails from all over

and

I stand amazed by all

honored

by each and every one

...

I also see those "statistics" that let me know that we have readers in

England, New Zealand, Iran, and just about everywhere

including Africa and Australia, Brazil, Germany...

and places of our

great country

so

I'm asking!

When you are out and about;

will you take the time

to pick up a postcard or twenty

just

fill up the mailman's bag

in that little town?

In the friendly skies

yesterday

as we neared

Cincinnati Ohio

and prepared to land

I then noticed the plane

change...

Delta was going

UP UP UP

as in changing its mind ???

As we went higher and higher

and then made a huge circle

the pilot came on the loudspeaker and said,

"Ladies and gentlemen, we were informed by the terminal that ALL OUR LANDING GEAR HAD NOT DROPPED AS WE WERE LANDING...

and we had to replace bulbs in our controls, we have now done that, and now know that all landing gear is working PROPERLY, and are now preparing for our

{safe}landing! We now know that ALL our landing gear is down, and we are NOW preparing for landing,

we should be safely on the ground in 5 minutes, thank you for flying Delta"

Safely arriving I was met by the sedan man

of Executive Sedans, (Mike)

and

we had a delightful drive to

Dayton!

GOOD MORNING DAYTON!!!

I know look forward to a day

of

wonderment with

those at

Crossroads Hospice

as

together we

celebrate

National HOSPICE MONTH

...

I am honored to be with them

and

I look forward to speaking to them

today

and then head to

Cincinnatti

for another keynote tomorrow!

Perhaps if she were to get her

"swagga on" with a

"HAT"

it would help her with her

use of the word

"idea"?

But

I have to give it to her,

My girl has Moxie

and I am ever so proud of her!

Imagine how much fun this can be... you can send her postcards from all over, and with great sayings and messages for her and the residents:

"the weather is HERE wish you were beautiful"!!!

It is truly in our care and doing for others that we fill ourselves up in ways unimagined.

It is in caring, in stepping outside and breathing the crisp morning air or seeing a sunset that we behold all that we have to give to another

and

in those ways

we receive so very much.

I do hope you will join with others

overwhelming or just making "giddy"

Pulaski VA

where less than 10,000 call home, in the heart of

the New River Valley!

Many may remember

played against the Pulaski Cougars for

bragging rights of the "BRIDGE"

Now speaking of wearing some outfits

since we just

celebrated

VETERANS DAY

and

since I have

just returned from

the

Land of Enchantment

where I visited a lovely little store

called

"Moxie's"

and

it was just lovely!

Might as well show you

some

real

MOXIE

That COB...

she sure does know how to dress

and

wear a hat on top of it

when she showed up

at the office of

Director Angie

to volunteer!

Oh my

what Moxie in action she was!

Seems we have a "thing for hats" in the family,
but then again, we do have some

MOXIE

too!

and for the kids

I am just joyous to watch as they develop their brains

and

their ability to

find their fit in those hats

and

walk their walk

in all that they think, say and do.

So far, so good...

they are funny, they are kind, and they are filled with spirit.

They are finding their own opinions

and

listening to their own music

finding their own

"beat"

but mostly

they are feeding

"the right wolf"

and

developing the right amount of

MOXIE

tempered with

still the right amount of

cautiousness

of their surroundings

and

that is a good thing!

We'll wear our hats... and we'll have our swag on!

with new enjoyment along the way

with

MOXIE

and

enjoyment

with each breath

along the day

and along the way!

 Moxie originated as a patent medicine called "Moxie Nerve Food," which was created around 1876 by Dr. Augustin Thompson of Union, Maine. Thompson claimed that it contained an extract from a rare, unnamed South American plant, which had supposedly been discovered by a friend of his, Lieutenant Moxie, who had used it as a panacea. Moxie, he claimed, was especially effective against "paralysis, softening of the brain, nervousness, and insomnia."

I am preparing to return home

after a most remarkable tour

one that had me in El Paso

where I met service men and women

in an airport in El Paso TX.

I walked the airport

the home of

FT Bliss

and

over the overhead loudspeaker a man's voice

came on

and stated;

"IF YOU SEE A SERVICE MAN OR WOMAN

HERE IN OUR AIRPORT,

PLEASE THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE IN OUR COUNTRY, PLEASE REMEMBER OUR SERVCE MEN AND WOMEN. WE THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE,

WELCOME TO EL PASO."

I had just landed,

flying

American Airlines ealier

as we landed

the pilot came on the speaker

and

informed the passengers that we had

service men and women on board,

he thanked them for serving our country!

I began to applaud,

I continued clapping until others on the plane

joined me, and we clapped

and

we clapped

until

the entire plane

erupted in clapping for the 5 that were aboard the plane.

I have never been more proud.

It was then

I found out that FT Bliss is

HUGE...

I was in El Paso,

and

realized just how huge

FT Bliss was!

Soon I was in the air and

arrived in Alburqurque NM,

got a rental car and headed to beautiful

Santa Fe,

arrving at the historic

Hilton

and

all I can tell you is this,

it was

"the land of Enchantment"

and

a most spiritual two days

in New Mexico.

The first person I met

here on this Veterans day

as I reflect on Santa Fe

was a man named Rick

from Missouri.

Rick was a

Vietnam Veteran

and

he was at the Hilton on business.

We struck up a conversation and I enjoyed him so very much.

Rick was in a power chair,

and he had eyes that spoke to the soul.

He had been shot several times in Viet Nam,

suffered a brain anyrueysm

and was told he would never recover,

but

recover he did

and

now is articulate, is charming

and

oh is he bright.

A Marine, a husband, and quite a gentleman.

He has survived all odds

even to the dismay of a brilliant doc of Johns Hopkins

he told me.

I admired him, and hated our time was so limited.

Thank you Rick for your service to our country,

I hope our paths will cross again some day.

I was honored to meet some wonderful professional caregivers in Santa Fe,

to walk the streets there and visit the most beautiful of shops;

to sit in and pray in St Francis Church there;

to light candles for loved ones

and

to see some incredible sights

and sit in the lobby by a fire that was just amazing

before leaving for beautiful

Alburqurque

oh how I love

this area.

but

yesterday

was more than I could hope for

as

folks gathered for a long but fabulous day

of

healthcare professionals

along with

therapists, counselors, physical and occupational therapists,

pyschologists, social workers and even a fellow 9/11 first responder.

Two women there had suffered the effects of giving so much to those they provided care for that one had had a heart attack and stroke along the way, the other had a thryoid removed

folks that give so much to others in their professions that they fail to take best care of themselves until their bodies finally just shut them down along the way!

The blessings of the day were many;

the city filled with spirit

out in the

land of enchantment

out in

Indian Country

places of such beauty

with stories of

inter-generational loss/grief/sorrow

that continues on today

with stories that would break your heart.

I have time to catch some more of the beauty,

pictures to share with you all here,

the warriors of this page

and

then its time to board

SOUTHWEST

my airlines

and

head home

to warmth...

to family and the four leggeds

and

to rest

before heading off to Ohio

next week

and seeing those

folks wearing the

green

of

Crossroads Hospice!

For

 today

we pause

we remember

we

give great thanks

to those

wearing the Uniforms

those who have served

our great country

we

take time

to cross the street if we have to,

just to say

for your service of our Great Country

while so many have paid the ultimate sacrifice

so that we may enjoy the freedoms
