Labor Day Week-End

Hold tight to your ruby shoes, click them three times, and get your weekend up and going where you want to go... Many are on the roads to places known and unknown while others are at home, "there's no place like home"....

Labor day, the farewell to summer celebration it seems.... just can't get with that myself but many will be celebrating the end of summer as they welcome the fall of things and back to routines of school, of cooler weather and the joys that the darker months bring.
Others will be spreading blankets for concerts, great gatherings and hope the rains won't find them (the raindrops have begun here)... the skies a bit gray, but it's early, so best to get that out of the way so the sun can shine baby shine! Many will walk that last walk on the beach today, etching the sand the feeling the air into their body and brain for the rest of the year, those things that will warm them during the dark and cold months ...

They know that water is something they can count on to be there when they return, the tide will roll in and roll out as they labor on through the months ahead as the seasons change along with the light, the times the moods ... it will be constant in its changes.

Labor Day, heaven forbid we forget the retailers along with those who hit the malls and the stalls for reaping the savings that lay in front of their eyes and their wallets this weekend... While many will try to relax there will be those who labor on labor day along with those who try to find the bargains that we hear about!

Labor Day Weekend, the last hoorah for the kiddies before they get serious at school, buckle down learning and re-learning how to study, to follow the schedules that parent(s) try to set once again for a successful year...

Oh yes it is a busy time for so many, as we also have to keep our eye on the news in order to worry about whether we will engage in things where we have no business... Syria comes to mind.  Happy Labor Day weekend everyone.

Happy Labor Day, in other words this weekend the message is,

Thank you to those who are laboring on this labor day, to those who are serving our Nation, may you be safe. We want you home.

Maya Angelou has said it all: C O U R A G E

We need to thank Dr. Maya Angelou for her courage, her life, her walk and her talk.  She says it all when she speaks of the work to be done, the work still to be done, with each person, each color, each step... We must find our courage to stand together arm in arm.
We must remain with humor, we must know laughter during the worst of times and continue on ...

We must know grace under fire... and remember to say thank you as she so eloquently does often and be more than we can imagine through tears while admitting we are funny.

COURAGE:

courage in small ways of those who never have been on the news, in the headlines along with those of all colors, all genders, all for the greater good of each of us.  Then we will know the dream, live the dream for the greater good.
Then we will not gather on special anniversary's and ask why or what else, we will be more than we ever imagined and so busy being more that those dates are not as important as the next step will become, as we walk hand in hand, all brothers and sisters more powerful, more mighty, more courageous as we laugh, joyously at the togetherness that is intended in the day ... the day that matters is all that matters.

Yes, we have come a long way, but only when we IMAGINE and live in courage and a world that we want can we say we are the "most powerful people in the most powerful country"

As Maya said, "not only because we have right, but because we have MIGHT", we have courage and we know that we all bleed red....

Thank you Maya Angelou, for your humor, your laughter through tears, your walk, your friendship with Martin, with those who adore you and thank you for your courage.

Bless you Maya Angelou, you do rock those shades.... one more thing to love, admire and respect about you!

True that... and I join with Dr. Angelou in saying,

May you find courage to laugh during times of great angst, in the midst of those storms, to get your work done, loving all the way... arm in arm with our brothers and sisters as we restore sanity to our soil... one step at a time let us stand.

"Twerking", it's good for YOU!

The news is in... and it is GOOD NEWS,

"Twerking" is good for US... it increases metabolism, it makes us feel good, it tightens out butt cheeks and our muscles, thereby making us feel better! Babies are doing it, doggies do it, and we have a word now found official for it in the world for what we all were jaw dropping when Miley Cyrus grinded on stage with her tongue looking rather like a giraffe...

Why my goodness, that child was "twerking" for her health! I feel so much better now knowing she was only showing folks how to feel better, to get their exercise on and now they too can do the same thing in their homes and on the streets...
Now one and all can get their "Twerk On" and know they are benefiting their cardiac and butt health at the same time... and ultimately visit their good ole' chiropractor if not cautious.

If in Palm Harbor, Dr. Kevin Gallagher is the bomb and I'm sure can fit us in after "twerking for our health" if we need him.

Who knows we may indeed need him, need a new outfit to get our Twerk on, something like spandex, sweat pants and a tongue guard to allow us to concentrate on the thrusts, the movements and the beat of the drum as we tuck out butt cheeks to the music.

I think she only went wrong when her tongue fell out, her clothes fell off and she picked an object of desire or who picked her with such blurred boundaries... Oh wait; that was the name of the song I hear! Silly me.

Should your next workout include "twerking" please let me know how it works for you, let me know of the successes, the giggles the movement since you will be doing the 2013 version of a dance that began years and years ago.
Twerking is essentially a modern version of an African dance called mapouka, or “dance of the behind.” It, too, involves the rhythmic shaking of the butt while facing away from the audience, but the traditional way is considered much less obscene than the modern variety.  I tell you, it was the lack of clothing and that darn tongue that she is having trouble keeping in her mouth that found its way to her knees during that routine that has just caused the outrage, or maybe it was the paltry amount of clothing, the whiteness of the skin matched with the whiteness of her bra and panties...
One of the first pop-musical calls to twerk on the dance floor was 1993’s “Do The Jubilee All,” by New Orleans–based hip-hop artist DJ Jubilee. "Twerking" has recently become so popular that people are uploading YouTube videos of their pets and even babies doing it. Now those are quite comical I have to tell you, I have almost laughed myself silly, and even the adults give me a giggle from time to time, some with booties so bouncy that if twerking does that to a person, I cannot imagine every doing it in my life.  Who after all would want to carry that much junque in their trunk I ask?

As a dance trend, it's sure to be short-lived. Remember how cool you were doing the Macarena or the Cupid Shuffle until you saw you grandma doing it?   I did enjoy seeing the Army vs. Marines doing the Cupid Shuffle recently... always competition even through dance!  The important thing is to JUST DANCE I always say...
"Twerking" ah, I would guess that ole' Patrick Swazye is having a ball watching all that from a distance, they sure don't dance like they did when no one left Baby in the corner.... or the days of the slow drag. At least we wore our clothes, perhaps that is the biggest difference and what folks find as so very offensive.
Twerking is rather like butt humping and ain't nobody got time to be watching that!  or do they?

hahaha, they do say however 60 minutes of "twerking" will do ya good!

Good luck with that... of course exercise is good for ya, but be careful out there, where, when and how you "twerk"...
Yes, probably more short lived a dance than the news we'll continue to hear of little Miley and Mr Thicke as they both cash their checks  and how she has grown...  how silly is that?

But while it's in, go ahead, shake it like there's no tomorrow... just keep your clothes on and your tongue in your mouth!  REady to get your "twerk" on?

Have a sterling day, and remember

put on your clothes, tongue in your mouth and
DANCE just DANCE

In the News

The need for the BS guard has never been stronger... From the reactions to Miley on stage grinding for all she was worth, to now the threat of sending our men and women to Syria... we need to filter the news, the stress that is escalating, the craziness that continues with violence on our streets to the hate that fills the news streams and the minds of folks trying to sort it all out while living their lives.  Stress is at an all time high along with hearing the stories of the news that just seems to get harder to bear, or could it be... we are getting used to hearing the most horrible of the horrid? Taking it in now as just another day of evil taking the lives of precious people that were just living their day until the unacceptable happened to them.  In the news, breaking news, update on the latest news... where is the outrage? Of the act, not a comparison of what might have happened in the past and the results but the act itself that has happened?
Where is the in the present, in real time demand for change without comparison, without blame or throwing stones comparing dollars to donuts and who shot john stories while pointing fingers back and forth under extreme screaming and stress?

Not meaning to sound uncaring, crass or rude here, but Lincoln was assassinated, JFK killed, MLK died while living his life in movement for the betterment of all people... Not just one race, but for injustices yet are we all not getting that today 2013 we are falling back more than 50 years of the walk, the struggle, the pain?

Where is the outrage, when justice systems are broken, jails are filled beyond capacity, and slaps on the wrist fail to instill fear of doing crimes that leave honored war veterans attempting to fight for their life against kids who set out to kill and take a precious life. Then we hear it is "random"... Words are powerful, reactions seems to lead us back to another time rather than focusing on the here and now.

We only have the right here, right now to get things right.

We witness startling images, pictures of a woman holding a handgun to the head of her child with a plea to share the photo so that she can be found, yet we are told everyone has the right to own a gun... I do believe that photo proves that statement to be false.  We have grieving families, shock filled with trauma mourning the loss of someone loved, gone to soon by the hands of one who had no value of life... we are forgetting about that impact as we instead lobby fuel causes and take up agendas that have nothing to do with the pain of loss or the impact to society that someone died needlessly secondary to violence.

We are too wrapped up in what Miley wore or didn't, how she grinded as the music played yet we don't blame the one who choreographed the show or aired it.  We now sit with our breaths held thinking of our armed forces being sent to Syria to fight someone else's battle and nerve gases that may be our latest tragedies while our wounded warriors continue to come home without resources to heal them ...

STRESS is killing folks right here on our soils... and no one is paying attention. We need compassion, empathy, strength to stand.  What has become of those who stand with integrity in the midst of crisis and still are able to remember who they are, brothers and sisters arm and arm through it all.  When is the last time we stood through it all knowing we were united ...

Schools around the country are back in business of "educating" the students... The highways have bus drivers on the roads, fall is about to happen once again. Parents and kids woke up in Sandy Hook only to realize that it was not goin to be the same for many there... that bus driver would bypass many stops they used to make, some parents would not have kids this year to place on that bus, others would let their kids go to school with flash backs or terrors of what was has been and what could be... Kids themselves would go with trepidation, or just wonder if they are OK... that scene may be happening in more schools than we can imagine, in more homes than we even think about...
But in the news we continue to hear nothing good happening, only things to make you shake your head, fill your senses with dread or fear...

It is past time to put on your BS guard, to take control of your stress and remind yourself of the diamond from coal under stress and shine on.

There can be respect in differences of opinions, in stances taken, there can be honor in honesty, there can be and should be truth in testing waters while at the same time letting the words of "unity" resound in all things as we stop the violence and decide we are past sick of what we have been witnessing on OUR soils.

On This Day...

12 years ago, I was hustling past the Pentagon, getting to the airport on an afternoon... flying to Chicago with the cell phone to my ear and cuz Angie on the other end wanting to deliver a little boy as I screamed, "NOT YET I am on my way... just hold on"....
Thankfully she waited as that plane arrived, the cab was hailed and I begged, "HIT IT" and  zoomed to that hospital, got past security and into the booties gown and was looked over by the doctor as he said, "so you are the one we've been waiting for"!
YEP, I am the one, let's get my baby outta there doc!
Oh I am so happy she crossed her legs and waited for the Godmother....

As the screaming and great joys (NOT) began, I cut that little kids' cord and it's been a grand times ever since. I was honored to name Kamryn Elijah and think I gave him his first squishy nerf basketball oh so long ago... Watching him now grow too quickly, laugh loud and hard along the way. His passion for balling has intensified, his ability to make one scratch their head continues as now he turns 12... which he reminded me of as I awoke from a dead sleep to answer the phone sometime after midnight last night!

He now has the brain that continues to grow, the body that is on growth as well, feet in the shoes that do not wear out as much as need a larger size, 10 1/2 at last report in... To a new school this year, with a ready to go and get it, already thinking of college and where he can ball, the grades must be sterling, the study habits must be learned to be the best... the tasks are many along with learning about which wolf to feed and to feed consistently. Oh the things and the choices to make on this 12th birthday!

Kamryn Elijah; always a kid of kindness, a peacemaker and one who is just funny... how I pray he does not lose that as he grows, as he is influenced by peers, by situations and time. Known to get so tickled he has to place his hands on his knees and bend at the waist laughing, it is infectious... from the time of a wee one. I notice it is harder to get to that bliss for him now; watching others and modeling their "serious" swag... reminding him often that is not always the best way as laughter lives within him and is helpful to others as he walks his own walk.  I think he gets it, but reminders are a good thing.

We all benefit greatly from them, balance is a great act, dance a good thing, limiting sadness embracing the good.  There is enough angst in the world, confusion, it is not always necessary to take on what is not yours...Joy is yours, if you just let yourself feel the spirit that Creator gave you, it shines!

Shine... laugh... enjoy this precious life...

The above was Kamryn hearing about his birthday gift from the Godmother ... he was being told he would be meeting his hero; MICHAEL JORDAN...  and meet him he did in California, oh yea.... he is living the dream as he likes to say.

We just have to get him through the "shy stages" of pre-teen and into social graces of talking! haha
It is coming if it kills me!
Less video gaming and more talking is my thinkin... but what do I know? I'm just the Godmother.

Kamryn born on August 24... got to name the little guy, got to cut his cord... we do have a special connection of the soul. A trust that he knows when he needs to hear a voice he calls, when he wants to talk something over, he calls.
That works; and oh some of the things we have talked about! He was born with all he needs to do all he wants or dreams if he follows his passion, works his plan, receives the support, love and understanding along the way, and at times perhaps even a swift kick in the reality.
Dreams... thrills.... experiences... livin the dream! That's my wish for that Godson of mine as long as he remembers, honor in all things, honesty, truth, compassion, kindness he will be A-OK.

Whoa, it is a wonderful life...

Happy birthday Kamryn Elijah... celebrate, laugh, and have them take you for lobster, steak and do not forget the appetizers! Maybe this will be the day you try calamari !!!

..................................

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross died on August 24, stepping from this world to dancing in the galaxies... Her life will be remembered around the globe on this day as many host dinner parties to "talk about death" as she is remembered on this day as she is still a life force in this world and the next place. She will always be missed.
............................................
 AND,
on this day... we all need to know, not only was Kamryn Elijah born but it is also,

WAFFLE DAY, Knife Day, and Pluto Demoted Day....

So oh what a day it is today... get out there and eat a waffle, cut it with a knife, remember the woman who brought death and dying into the homes of all and helped professionals be more than they were before, as now we love someone to the little rock once known as Pluto, and say
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my beloved Godson
Kamryn

it is goin to be a mouthful, but enjoy the waffles
and have a glorious day... wherever you are and whatever you are going through or to.

remembering changes are constant as we watch the clouds

The daily clouds, skies and off the hook storms have left us amazed here in the sunshine state. More than 3,000 lightning strikes were reported in less than an hour yesterday as the rains fell so hard and quickly it was hard to see 10 feet in front of you. The skies painted greys yet the line of white beauty were still visible, and I could swear I saw a silver lining in a few of them right before those rains pounded with such fury. The smell in the air changed, the air changed, the winds picked up changing a blue sky, sunny and warmth to just Rain and wind... The thunder was like a bowling arena full tilt with drummers drumming like they were spirit led. It was quite the time, right in rush hour traffic I just might add. Seems that is the way it is, round 430 - 7pm for those trying to get home safely, the worst of the storms and then round two when the power either goes out or flickers depending on where you live...

Stress heightened when relaxation should be settling in for time spent at home preventing folks from remembering that changes are constant both within selves and around surroundings. We all change, just as the seasons, the flowers, the dirt we walk on. It is just how it is, yet always fought tooth and nail.  We forget to watch the clouds for their resounding beauty even in the storms of our lives or our surroundings.

We forget what is known, what is felt and our brain bypasses our hearts leading us to wonder about things we know, about relationships, feelings take over and go wild ... like a storm out of control or the wildfires now being fought out west it seems.  Feelings, thoughts, stress can do that within a body, a mind, just like a storm can swirl or the full moon can impact the inner thoughts as this one seems to have this week. Hearing that medical and emotional feelings are out of wack for many; those in the professions reporting that things are just crazy in many ways... One of those full moon explanations that often happen just like that! The tides changing, the storms impact, the full moon hardly visible from the cloud cover but we all know it is there... yet we forget, everything changes... everyone changes, we are all a work in progress.  Some things we want to change, yet it takes time, work, prayer and more time... Other things seem to change us over time, in an instant, and we awaken to it!  We find ourselves in the middle of the storm at times wondering if it will stop, or if we have been transported to another world, another time or place... and at times, we learn to dance our way through it, feeling the rain, embracing the pain, and moving along differently than ever before... keeping our eye on the changing clouds in awe. The awe of a child that lives within each of us as we see perhaps for the first time that we are unique, always changing learning and growing into ourselves no matter what, where, how or why things have happened the way they have happened.

May you dance in the sun, laugh in the rain... See the spirits on the lightning bolts and hear the drummers drumming when the thunder rolls... knowing you are as unique as each rain drop and cannot be touched by the same drop twice... Enjoy it when it happens.  Sometimes there just might be a message in those clouds, a sign, a spirit trying to talk to ya... L O O K !

Sending you a full heart through the storm today,

Through the Rains

Tis rain time in sunny Florida! Boy oh boy are we having some rain, thunder and lightning so quick that the ole' weather man is having a hard time counting the dots... yet reports the strikes daily on the news.  Yesterday and last night were no exception as the rains fell hard, traffic was creeping along and then a double rainbow delighted those who were breathing well enough to notice it!
Through the storms of life or rains that are in real time, often if we take the time to look up we'll find the beauty sneaking in on us... reminding us that storms never last but are often necessary in the world, in our life and for our soils. In some ways it washes it all clean. By now we should be sparkly clean here I'm thinkin' and maybe just maybe our muscles are a bit tighter after that white knuckle drive over the bridge yesterday and that traffic as well.  But oh my, what a rainbow... just a shame there was not a good place to pull off to just enjoy it, but another reminder of life in all its wonder. Sometimes one has to take things as they are, enjoy in the midst of what is happening and keep moving along.

Looking around today, the pool is full, right to the very edge of its self from all that rain; the grass is greener than it was and the flowers are standing straight up as if screaming for the butterflies to come and enjoy them!  Morning is quiet, rain drops still can be seen glistening as the sun finds them for the day. Blue skies with puffy white clouds and the temperature is still cool to the feel. Yes, quite the rain, the thunder, the light show has left an impression here... expect it will return for another stage presence around rush hour today, just cos' it can.

Meanwhile in the news: another was arrested in GA at a school after threat was there do harm kids. After parents, loved ones and a community was put in harms way... In that beautiful red dirt place I have just been in; Oklahoma City; a young beautiful man was jogging on a street there, loving his life when three kids drove by and shot him dead. Teenagers, shot and killed a young man who was doing what he loved; running... minding his own business, probably listening to music and having a great day. Now? He is dead.
Why? As they showed the pictures of three kids from the local high school the disgusted police officer said, "they said they were bored, they decided to go out and kill someone. We are going to prosecute them as adults."

News around the Nation seems to get worse everyday, think I'll stick with the weather; with the similarities of how the storms of weather emotions, storms within resonate with those going to it, through it or are confused by it... even those who fear it.

Storms never last, and sometimes in the greatest of storms, there will be gifts. When you look UP, look around or even when you look down.

Look to the rainbow; its beauty will fill you up, it may be a message for only you at the time you need it most... it helps to keep your heart open and your eyes wide open through the storms in order to receive the many gifts that are surrounding you...
There is no distance.
Wishing you all that you dare to dream, as you dance yourself silly today... if only in your heart and mind!

 I wish you rainbows
