WE WILL NEVER FORGET 9/11 ~

WE WILL NEVER FORGET 9/11

Good morning friends, family... Blessings to all and great thanks that we are...
Happy Birthday Cathy Madden, may your day be a wonderful celebration of YOU!
Coffee hot and morning dark... waitin on the sun to shine, shine brightly on all us of sun, shine SHINE shine.

Where were you on that morning that changed our landscape of our United States of America, our homes, our very nervous system that day? Where were you when you tried to reach your family members, your friends... and then quickly realized you didn't feel safe on our sacred grounds of home, the home of the free because of the brave? Only to realize in a fast hot minute that everything had stopped ~ We had no phone connections in DC ~ no way to reach anyone ~ we were in a state of disbelief, of shock/horror ~
It felt like the world had literally stood still as if frozen in someone else's horror movie ~

The September 11 attacks were a series of coordinated well thought out, well planned to destroy the very fiber of the USA through by insane heartless suicide attacks;
By al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. These hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. We watched as it happened, we watched and we cried, we screamed, gasped, and we watched more... over and over again; and we wailed for our brothers and sisters, and those that risked their lives to help...
We watched in horror those that jumped from the windows... they must have trusted that God would catch them and that it would be OK.
Later we heard the voice mails, the phone calls made to loved ones, crying saying their good byes... we heard of the heroics... and we watched... again and again...
Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others.
The hijackers crashed a third airliner Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C., but their attempt at that failed.
There were no survivors from any of the flights... none.
The deaths were almost 3,000 that day on American soil. More than 350 firefighters died that day more than 50 policemen as well.

Most people who witnessed the plane hitting the Pentagon thought, at first, that the plane was going in for a landing at National airport, happens all the time.
But in reality it was about to make a crash landing into the side of the building, crossed the highway, right over the heads of some in their cars. It went waay inside the rings of the Pentagon...amazing was the hole... saw it with my own eyes, even went in the hole.

The crash killed 200 people including all of the 64 on the plane. The plane went through three of the four rings of the Pentagon and caught the wooden roof on fire, and up on the roof, remains were found, along with a shoe or two.
Then off in the rural area of Shanksville PA the third plane went down... but they put up with some fierce Americans before taking it down... those who took a stand and fought before dying that day, trying to overtake the terrorists. We heard one brave young man saying good bye to his wife by cell phone right before his death ~
WE MUST NEVER FORGET 9/11

Please don't tell me you've forgotten... tell me anything today, but don't tell me that.

It is hard for me to believe that 9 years have passed so quickly ~ So many ran to enlisting stations after the attacks,
World War II vets wanting to sign up all over again, wanting to get a piece of Bin Laden...
Wanting to fight for our freedoms fight for our Flag...
>STOMP<
This was the unthinkable, the unimaginable, and it happened on a beautiful morning... folks just going about their day ~living their lives ~
That was changed in a hot minute. The day life as we knew it changed forever more.

My bestest friend was in Canada on holiday... I couldn't reach her... she couldn't reach me... she was trying to get home after hearing about it all from a pub master while having lunch! She said she felt sick, and a tremendous need to get home, right there right then... An overwhelming need to be in her home, on her soils the USA.
As she was driving the toxic acrid air started choking her North of NY... she lost her voice trying to get home, from the air quality...she still couldn't reach me but spirit reached her with this message: "Sherry is ok, but she is on the Pentagon grounds and has been called to help there... keep trying to reach her"
She said she laughed through tears and said, "I just knew it, I knew she would be right in the middle of this, oh God please keep her safe"
It took her 4 days to make it from NY to DC... with roads closed, and traffic and all sorts of mess ~ but she made it, we connected, and whew... I needed the support by the time she did arrive safely ...

All of a sudden more people since WWII were filling Tattoo parlors, needing to have something emblazened on their skin; Eagles with a tear in their eyes, the flag, the pain felt by the one getting a tattoo, a symbol of their grief felt deeply and then visible for all to see; visible for ever more. Griefs mark, a warrior's shield of sort I think.
The funeral homes were full ... missing person's signs everywhere, people stunned standing on the streets with pictures; folks filling the local hotels in Arlington VA, and finding comfort in strangers... waiting, wishing hoping, but deeply knowing that there were no survivors...
Phones were ringing, people were needing to be together... UNITED in disbelief, in sorrow, in fear.
American Flags were flying on every corner... Folks were nervous about flying, scared to go out to malls, to theaters to places where large crowds gather.

We went to war, the President said,
"We Will Not Falter We Will Not Fail" ~ and we believed that would be true...

9 years have passed, Bin Laden has had many cell phones since then I am sure, many new followers, many new robes or whatever it is he wears... dialysis? doubt it.  many new terrorists have been trained... We have had many young men and women return home with honors and flag drapped caskets.
Arlington National Cemetery now does more than 300 burials a day I am told.

WE MUST NEVER FORGET 9/11

I was honored to be a first responder at 9/11, my life was forever changed by that. I still at times see those AK47's pointed at me to get through clearance, after searches, I still recall the K-9's searching the vehicles, wonderful handlers/fantastic dogs... I recall with tears of fondness all that I was honored to work beside, our pain our moments of intimate quietness as remains were found ~ the silence as they were brought out of the Pentagon.

I also vividly know that spirits walked through those  grounds at night, those now very sacred grounds that are forever changed from that day ~ those men and women that worked around the clock to find people the remains, to use creativity and honor with integrity in order to do the impossible when smells and views made them weep from their souls... our souls were blessed by them, but so deeply hurt as well.
We had t-shirts presented to us with a picture of the pentagon, being held by hands... One night we all went around and had each other sign the shirts as we were wearing them... I still have mine, I treasure it like it was Hope's SCAT... wouldn't take a million for it... sure wish I hadn't worn it, should have framed it, but I do wear it with pride... and will til it falls off me ~ I can still see the US Marshalls, FBI, Marines/Army/Navy/PD/FD/EMS/RED Cross
and others as they signed/hugged and had me to do the same... As I said
UNITY was what it was called...

Our lives changed forever that day. And we
MUST NEVER FORGET 9/11
and those that lived through it
and
those that died that day
and those that live on with memories of their loved ones... children that now live without their parent, their aunt/uncle/Godmother/father, sister/brother...

Right here, on our land, our soil at the hands of terrorists who planned and executed this willfully and rejoiced at their success.
They have no idea of what the USA is founded upon...
Our colors do NOT run.

So at the Pentagon, they called the effort: UNITY
that is what it was first called
and
then it was referred to as "Project Nobel Eagle"

Call it what you want, it was difficult, it was many armed forces, many units, many bands/tribes/forces who gathered... with a mission, shared values, shared dedication ~ and together they worked, they cried when no one would be affected or infected by their pain in order to keep going... behind a "porta potty" in private... they put 'vicks" under their nose to mask the smells, drank coffee by the vats to keep going... water to hydrate... and developed tight desperate kinships that kept them together and moving... had to keep moving.

Psychological band aids were administered to enable each to keep going in the face of something stronger than adversity ~ something we had never experienced before, something more powerful than any reading/training had prepared us for ~ Many were able to move from their head into their gut... and their hearts in those days and months... For that I continue to give thanks! The gut and the heart are infinite, you can usually trust on them to get you where you need to go...
Intellect could have not gotten us through those days alone, as intellect had not prepared anyone for the scope of people jumping from the windows of the "twin sisters" in NYC or a plane entering the rings of the Pentagon, or Rumsfield crawling out a window of the Pentagon to render aide to people that were injured.... Intellect can only take you so far ~

Thank You Doc for this powerful Memorial to this tragic event in our history. I too will never forget that day. I remember too the great conection we all shared as Americans and the caring and love that poured forth between people unknown to each other until that day. Nine years have passed and indeed we are all changed. Stand up and fly the flag. Honor all that suffered, all that died, all the families that lost loved ones, and all the troops that so honorably served and still serve today to insure our continued freedom. We are free because they are brave. At the root of this horrible event is religious fanatacism. Sick and twisted beliefs and people. Strange, but the saddness returns every 9/11 and today is no exception. I was indeed the friend in Canada. The border were shut down and all air traffic was being rerouted to Halifax Nova Scotia. We were an hour south of Halifax and were advised to get any lodgings we could find and stay put. The borders reopened three days later and the efforts to get home began. Rough trip and terrible angst at being so far from home. My home was about 5 miles from the Pentagon then. I remember Sherry comming there to shower and nap for a few hours after working the Pentagon 14-16 hours every night. She was literally gray. Little comfort I could offer, but was glad to have a safe and nearby respite for her that first month. I heard first hand the stories of the men and women working there and the horrors of their efforts. I know every life she touched was in some way strengthened and soothed by her counsel and her warmth. Today, I honor her and all the others who served so selflessly.

Yes, the day the World stood still. I remember it with goose bumps right now all over my body and tears in my eyes. I was in the bathroom and my bathroom mirror is hung so I can see the television while dressing. I saw the plane fly into ground zero in New York my thoughts was what a sick commercial is that, then it was replayed and I ran in the room and saw it was real. I screamed for those people jumping out of the building and I screamed to try to get thru on the phone when I saw the horrible things that was happening here in our Country. I heard of the man calling his wife and I heard the men yelling something like LETS ROLL and it was our brave men on that plane who had made a quick plan to take the high jackers down. I immediately got packed to go up to Northern Virginia and to help Dr. SES, sister and I was there with other friends to peel her Red Cross vest off when she staggered in exhausted, we fed her, bathed her and put her in the bed. Then it was time to get up and go again. We were all exhausted waiting to hear from her and waiting for her to come home and again the same thing. We all stayed glued to the television. This went on for days and days. After things settled down she had formed so many friendships thru all of their hard work that was a real heart sick and heart ache to all she remained friends with many of the workers, police men, fire fighters and every day persons. She received shirts, hats, and even a Grand Marshall badge as a gift from Texas. She did her job along with others when the call came and she did it well. We shall never forget and the tear in the Eagles eye will always remind us of 09-11-01. We need to say a prayer for all the workers and all of the families left behind today and all days. We want forget you and we will not forget our soldiers over there and here fighting for us. God bless all. Sign me a proud Mommie of Dr. SES cant get name to work

I just listened to the tune from Alan Jackson and the pictures touched my heart. HAVE WE FORGOTTEN? The pictures should be run every day for awhile and maybe some of these morons around here would leave the country. Especially the idiot in Fl.. maybe he will see your blog and feel the hurt in each of our words. We can never forget, never forget the pictures of the soldiers holding the little children, the ice sculpture of the soldier with the angel kneeling next to him. I remenber driving by the Pentagon after they opened the road, the police was still sitting all around not letting just anyone in to the grounds unless they were needed. I remember stopping at the wall just opposite the Pentagon where someone had put a wall there were flowers, cards, flags, and stuffed animals all around. The flags lined the grounds and of course the tears flowed and flowed as they are doing today. God Bless the USA

Such a tragedy has impacted all our lives in one way or another. My Niece and her husband live in Manhatten. They were both working for the same company at that time. When this happened it took them hours to walk home and I think it was some 80 blocks that they had to walk it could have been more. My sister and her husband were living in an Airstream trailer that was parked in the drive of their home they were restoring due to a Tropical storm that had hit Houston and had gotten 4 ft of water in her home. She was off that day and I was on my way to work. We were talking on the phone when she said she was watching the today show and she told me a plane had hit the WTC. She didn't have a computer at that time and she said for me to hurry and get to work and find out what's happend. One of the men at our office went our and bought a TV so we could stay informed. I was being micro managed by a crazy woman at work that felt she needed to pile as much on my desk as possible that day and I was appalled by the way she just went about her day as nothing horrific was taking place. My son came by and took me out to lunch for my BD and for the first time ever I had an adult beverage with my lunch on a work day. We will never forget and I think it's what our generation defines as "It's Perle Harbor".
