SHOT DEAD BY A HUNTER IN MN

I am saddened to say... it has happened.

A hunter in Ely MN has done it.

Sarah, a North American "COLLARED" with mult-colored ribbons

on her collar to distinquish her to hunters

has been killed.

Her blood stained collar and ribbons were turned in

"anonymously"

Sarah a bear who would let humans walk alongside her; a bear with a gentle and sweet nature and spirit

is DEAD

by gunshot

somewhere in MN a hunter is

proud

he has killed a bear

he can pop a top on a brew and tell the tale of his wonderment, scratch his balls and stand tall.

He has managed to kill a

"collared" and precious

North American Black Bear

taking away years of trust/research/education

for the thrill of the kill

wonder how he slept last night?

All I can say is:

Bear spirit is powerful,

karma is a bit**

and what you put out will come back ...

Could you have at the very least.. the very least

have stood in front of the DNR and said your name when holding the blood stained collar?

Creator please look after our North American Black Bears and offer them protection...

So sad... My heart is aching for Dr Rogers, Sue and all those who walked with

Sarah the North American Black bear...

"Braveheart’s yearling daughter Sarah is dead. Her radio-collar was covered with bright ribbons. We thought she was safe. We picked up her blood-spotted radio-collar from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources this morning. It had been turned in anonymously.  

We are at a loss what to do to combat this kind of loss. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources posted a picture of a radio-collared bear with ribbons like on Sarah’s collar and asked hunters not to shoot these bears. The Minnesota Bear Guides Association asked their hunters to spare radio-collared bears. We contacted all the hunters we know in this area to introduce them to bears and answer their questions.

We have gotten the word out every way we know, including signs throughout the study area. And thanks to Lily fans, a huge amount of media coverage told how the radio-collared bears are helping science, education, and the regional economy. Sarah was a gentle, trusting, and trustworthy bear with the calm personality that allows a person to accompany her and be ignored.
Such a bear is a window into bear life for both us and the world. One goal with Sarah was to document her changing relationship with Braveheart as Sarah grew to maturity in Braveheart’s territory. We wanted to confirm or contrast those data with what we are learning from June and her daughter Lily. Sarah likely would have carved out a territory within Braveheart’s territory, while big Braveheart usurped part of neighboring territories to make room. We began such a study in 2006 with Braveheart’s daughter Gracie. We remember our worry during hunting season as people repeatedly tore down our signs in Gracie’s area. We tied ribbons on Gracie’s collar. Someone who watched her run across a road said she looked like a clown with all those ribbons! Shortly, a hunter shot her and turned in the radio-collar" Dr Lyn Rogers and Sue Mansfeld


The fans on Lily the Black Bears page are distraught... It's happened, deep inside each that visit there, this is the reality of bear hunt season... this has been the fear, the reality of bear hunt time. We pray no one gets hurt, no bears, no bear walkers...

long time... and it never fails.

Still stay there most days with the postings on the discussion of it.

Brings me to my thoughts of today:

You get what you pay for!

Sometimes you get much more...

sometimes it's just priceless in fact!

But then, you can always count on me to keep it real here... there are times when it's not!

You find you got much less than you paid for 

am I right or am I right?

I remember being told once that if you give it away, folks will think it is not worth anything...

I now think that is probably true over time.

But when I think about

the saying

"you get what you pay for" I often wonder about that!

This week I received my last issue of "O" the magazine...

As I looked through it, I was rather intrigued once again...

Oprah is truly brilliant; she came up with this magazine idea...

and it is filled I mean filled

 with folks selling things,

and 

this is the part that is amazing:

THEY PAY HER TO PUT THEIR STUFF IN THE MAGAZINE

AND THEN

WE PAY HER

TO READ THE MAGAZINE

AND

are we getting what we paid for

or

what who paid for

?

Brilliant I tell you, just brilliant.

Then I go on to read a section that is of the books that O says are a must read...

wait,

there must be a mistake there.

No where do I see

HEALING HEARTACHES

no picture,

 no reference at all!

Wait

I paid for my yearly subscription to "O"

I tweet Oprah weekly to tell her I am ready to come on the show and talk about the book,

I have offered to send her a "free" book

although it goes against my grain,

thinking she would probably rather pay for it, therefore

feeling it is indeed worth its 19.95 price

if not more!

Still I don't see it

in my last magazine of

Oprah

What is up with that?

"You get what you pay for"

Moe, generous Moe in Duluth bid $1,000.00 for a cub named HOPE's SCAT

 born of Lily the North American Black Bear

Now we all know that dear Moe,

 indeed got what he paid for and more

if not more!

Ever been to an outrageous restaurant, ordered a sumptuous meal...

sat back and said,

"that was worth every penny if not more"

You got what you paid for!

Ever gone to a therapist, at the end of your 50 minute session vowed you would never and I mean never go back and see that shrinky dink again???

Bet you thought you paid for more than you got!

Sometimes we just have to decide what it is we are paying for:

is it emotional/physical/financial

Do we give it freely

Do we charge for it

Do we put a tax on it

Do we expect something in return

Does it come with a "sur charge"

or a

"mam charge"

as in

Yes sir I am beholding to you for the rest of my natural life?

or

Yes mam, I know I paid in full but now you are going to hold it over my head forever and I would have been better off to go to a loan shark

Ah yes,

what does it really mean

You get what you pay for

saying you are a nice person and should get nice things is like saying you don't eat meat so the bull should not attack you in the ring.

HOWEVER,

Somethings are just the way they are;

healers/doctors/therapists/repair folks no longer can accept payment in eggs, chickens and pouches of tobacco!

Mortgages must be paid too by those who provide services, they have kids to send to college, grandkids who want stuff, hell they want and need stuff too...

There was a time, I freely would "give it away", but then a great mentor said to me...

"what are you doing/thinking"

"STOP

You must realize the value in what you do, the value of your profession, your ethics,

your time, and remember,

If you give it away...

 time, writing, therapy...

you are saying it is worth nothing..."

Ya gotta admit,

there's some sage advice there...

Balance, it's all about balance!

You must be astute in your finding those who provide and provide well;

so you know you are paying for what you receive.

Ever heard the expression:

Champagne taste and a beer bottle pocket?

James Goldsmith said:

"If you pay peanuts you get monkeys"

But dig a bit deeper into

" you get what you pay for"

what does that really mean?

think about your relationships, your relations with self, within, what does it mean for you in your life and in your work?

What does it mean professionally and personally to you and those that you call

friend/family

the blessings that flow like a creek bed over rocks gently

that which feeds and nourishes

the soul and spirit as well.

Words are powerful, intentions are strong...

Comments thoughts prayers across the wind

all can move mountains

touch people deeply in the hearts

giving them more than they could ever pay for

costing nothing

but generous spirit

the circle

continues

But really now, don't you think it's amazing that a magazine can be filled with ads... high ticket ads at that... folks paying for the privilege of showing their stuff between the covers of Oprah

National Guard there... He has a wife named Christina and three children ~ And now I hear while watching the VA Tech HOKIES lose their game, cuz met Matt's friend Aaron, his wife and kids... Seems Aaron is on the same flight compliments of USGOVT air to IRAQ for the same deployment ~
Gentlemen, our nation and this page of warriors thanks you! Sorry those HOKIES let you down too ~ But maybe they'll give you a win to send you off ... Stay safe and come home to your family, friends safely.


Matt and his friend, Aaron are leaving in a few days for IRAQ for a year... Please hold these young men in prayers and thoughts, his wife and family as well.
