Great Nation
We honor all who have served and we thank YOU.
Many
men and women have written at some point in their lives a blank check
payable to the United States Government for an amount that has been up
to and sometimes including their lives.
They have fought on behalf of their fellow brothers and sisters of the USA, with all their hearts, all their might.
They have given their lives
to serve
our Country
with PRIDE, with INTEGRITY
some gave all
All
gave more than we could ever imagine
Its' Veterans' Day
It is my sincere HOPE
that we all will go out of our way
cross the street if we have to
and
say
"thank you"
to men and women who have served
or
are serving
for our
country
for us
as
we remember
and
honor them
on
this
Veterans Day weekend and every day of our lives as we remember and as we take pause this weekend to honor and pay respect.
Steeped in rich history is Veterans Day
that will be celebrated in small towns, big cities across our vast Nation..
The
11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th day in 1918 was when a
temporary armistice was signed bringing an end to hostilities of World
War I.
Congress approved the creation of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony inaugurating the memorial happens on Nov. 11, 1921, and the official federal holiday goes into effect.
If
you have never visited there, I strongly urge you to make that trip
someday, to sit in pride, awe and honor as those men walk that walk 24/7
to
protect and honor the Tomb of the Unknown. The honor of those walking that walk were not deterred in storm, rain nor snow even with Super Storm Sandy of recent weeks.
Congress
passes legislation making Nov. 11 a legal holiday and calling it
officially "Armistice Day." Federal offices would close, as well as
courts and banks would do no business on Nov. 11 to mark the occasion;
Federal workers now take the Monday preceding Veterans Day off, Postal
workers, Banks all are closed, as are many other businesses as well.
Of course that excludes health care facilities and HOSPICE
whose doors are always open .
President Eisenhower
would later change the name of Armistice Day to Veterans Day in 1954.
Additionally, Eisenhower would create a Veterans Day National Committee
that would oversee any observances planned within the federal government
regarding Veterans Day. It wouldn't be until 1989 that the Secretary of
Veterans Affairs would chair the committee when the Cabinet-level position was created.
Congress
passed the Monday Holiday Law, making four Mondays throughout the year a
federal holiday, including Veterans Day. The official celebration was
the fourth Monday in October starting in 1971. When confusion set in as
to when the actual Veterans Day observance occurred, some states moved
the observance back to mid-November.
No
matter what day of the week upon which it falls, Veterans Day has been
observed in American on Nov. 11 since 1978. Parades that honor living
veterans occur in cities and towns all across the nation. Flags fly in
the nation's capital as Washington, D.C. honors soldiers who have fought
in wartime.
So there you go, a bit of history,
a lot of love and memories of those who have served.
Native Americans have fought in every battle since the Revolutionary wars and the Code Talkers were instrumental in bringing us through WWII and we honor them for their service as we remember our Veterans this weekend and as many gather to remember.

each and every day
with
pride and honor.

There
was a time when many visited the VA Hospitals often, celebrities too.
Making the rounds, cheering those men and women up as much as they can.
I remember hearing Montel Williams telling
Oprah that he does that, and then went on to say
"celebrities aren't doing that much anymore";
they are not knocking on the doors or walking into the rooms of Veterans and those who have come home
after leaving an arm or legs over there or parts of their minds and hearts over there.
I can't remember ever a celebrity or public figure going to the home of families with such profound loss and sitting at the kitchen table just to talk about the remarkable man or woman that have given all for our country.
Those are stories that we need to hear about, that is the fabric that flags fly and represent in the hearts of all who stand beside graves and feel the pride and missing of their relations about.

Rolling Thunder for the work and the rides that are always being done to bring all our men and women home, to not ever stop in keeping our MIA/POW in the thoughts and hearts of all.

for your service, your vision and your love.
The
fire is burning brightly, the embers are hot with thoughts, prayers on
the wind to those serving our nation, our Veterans and those who know
who they are...
My prayers are with General David Petraeus and his family today. Thank you sir for your service to our country and I pray that you and your family heal as well as I pray that the media and press allow you the privacy that your service now should be granted with respect.
