MARCH: Women's History Month

Granny
"back in the day"

Happy International Women's Day!
March is here
and
It's Women's History Month.
Women’s History Month had its origins as a national celebration in 1981 when Congress passed Pub. L. 97-28 which authorized and requested the President to proclaim the week beginning March 7, 1982 as “Women’s History Week." Throughout the next five years, Congress continued to pass joint resolutions designating a week in March as "Women’s History Week." In 1987 after being petitioned by the National Women’s History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as “Women’s History Month." Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women’s History Month. Since 1995, Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama have issued a series of annual proclamations designating the month of March as
“Women’s History Month.”
...
The theme for 2012
is
Empowerment and Education
as
we look at women
and
honor them.
The right to learn, to reach and grow
was a battle that was fought fiercely
and gained through years of struggle
by those who walked through their fears.
The time is certainly now
for women to
stand
and for all people to recognize
that without women
the race is done, over, kaput!
Mother Earth
has been through much,
is going through much
and
needs us to remember
her
and
the many and brave women
who are the matriarchs
and
the pioneers
and
often stand behind many great men
historically.
There is a new generation,
new
HOPE
and
new little feet with beautiful
souls
to pick up from the battles of years ago,
from the scars that are worn
and
the cumulative loss and grief that have
been healed along the journey
to
women who now are educated,
out numbering men in colleges nationwide!
The old ad that was once on televisions on the country has never been more true:
"You've come a long way baby"
...

Ah, yes we've come a long way
thanks to our wisdom keepers
to those who have helped to encourage,
love, mold, and
provide solid foundations on which we have build our own faith and homes
that sustain us in the good times
and the hard times.
Women stand UP
and
remember those who have walked the walk,
who have stepped out of the box
and
created magic and brilliance and opportunities
for all of us
and
the generations to come.

"Go Forward With Courage
  When you are in doubt, be still, and wait;
when doubt no longer exists for you, then go forward with courage.
So long as mists envelop you, be still;
be still until the sunlight pours through and dispels the mists
  as it surely will.
Then act with courage."
Ponca Chief White Eagle (1800's to 1914)

Speaking of courage
and
women to admire,
I'm thinking of  my dear friend Laura
of her grit, determination
and
her courage.
She has MS, a disease that has to go away.
She may have the diagnosis,
but the disease
will NEVER HAVE HER.
Her daughter Shauna is out in Texas
putting her butt on a bike every I mean every day
to prepare for the MS150
where she will ride once again for a cure
for this miserable disease.
Laura will be at the finish line
screaming her lungs out for Shauna
and
all the others riding
to
CURE MS.

Courage personified
and
lives being lived wide open
strong women...
And the next generation on its way
with a voice, a smile
and
HOPE,
Teach one > Reach one
and
embrace the rich history
of
women
who have made a difference in the lives of all on our earth,
while stepping UP and out
to continue
to embrace all that is beautiful,
all that is passion
all that is worthy of your time.

"Only 95 years ago on Nov. 15, 1917, Our Grandmothers & their Mothers Picketed the White House & CONSERVATIVES to get the right to vote!

33 innocent women were wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.' 40 prison guards wielding clubs & their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the women who were defenseless. By the end of the night, they were beaten until they were barely aliv...
e. Some were chained to the cell bars, hands above head & left hanging for the night, bleeding & gasping for air. Additional affidavits describe the guards dragging, beating, choking, slamming, grabbing & kicking the women.

For weeks, the women's only water came from an open pail. Their food-all of it colorless slop, was infested with worms.

One of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, so they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat & poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press. They tried to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane, for fighting to give women the right to vote, but failed.
All of Us, & especially women, need to make sure that they get out & vote, remembering these very courageous women, who fought the Conservatives with their lives, so that women would be allowed to vote today...
Alice Paul
"When you put your hand to the plow, you can't put it down until you get to the end of the row. "

From those brave early days
and
the women
since the beginning of time,
I tip my hat
and
say
"thank YOU'
We've come a long way baby,
and
we've only begun!

Yes it is
Women's Month,
it is the time
for
women to be heard,
and
I do believe that more women, grand dames,
are letting the world know
they have beauty, grace, elegance,style
and
a voice that has power.
Women know the ropes
the hoops,
hell women created them!

“A dame that knows the ropes isn't likely to get tied up.”  Mae West

Yes,
Women are remarkable,
“After all, Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.”  ~ Ann Richards ~

Wishing you a day
to
"roar"
a day that is filled with all that you dare to dream.
When you see a woman out there,
remind her to stand up for all women,
in her walk, her talk, her actions.
Remind that man how lucky he is
to have had a Mom, a sister, a daughter, a friend.

Celebrate each day
with
"awe"
in your freedoms and rights and choices.

Walk in Beauty,
DRSES
keepin it real

To women everywhere, find your voice, raise it to speak about what matter to you. Dr Sherry does and I love her for it! Use your hard won vote. I won't pretend to tell you how to vote. Vote your conscious. I do. How they vote, determines every time how I vote. Honor these women of the past by standing up and being all that you are capable of today. Just sayin...
