Have you thought about your TONGUE lately?

Yep, today's thoughts are about the TONGUE... yours, mine, just everyone and everything that has one, that's what I'm thinking about! Now mostly I'm talkin about and thinkin about humans here, and yes I do know that many of you will be having coffee and wondering "just how and why does she come up with and think about such things!!!" I know, I know, and that's alright to have those thoughts and wonderings, just as today the thoughts are on that tongue of yours, mine and just about everything/one that has one!
I was just asked by a reader yesterday about these blogs, and told that they enjoyed them so much, as they referred to a blog of this week and asking me if I knew which one! I replied I seldom remember what I have for dinner the night before... as once it is written it is gone, but today, the tongues have it as I recall an old Native saying,

Listen or your tongue will make you deaf. So I listened to the particular blog that was being referred to and why it was enjoyed so much... no need for me to re read it, as I much preferred to hear about it without speaking through different eyes; the eyes and the tongue of a reader!

Oh that wonderful tongue of folks; of even the critters out there that we so adore.  Have you given thought to it this week?  Have you laughed at those furry creatures that use theirs to love you, entertain you, or the kids or adults that use those tongues for gestures, for just pure enjoyment without saying a word... even found yourself using yours as you move about your day to get that job done?

Sometimes that tongue gives us something to gnaw on, something to just tickle us to life about, something to hold on to, or have to bite in just the right moment before it falls out of our mouth and we immediately step on it in our foiled attempts at comforting another or attempting humor that turns out just wrong beyond belief and in our attempt to right it, once again it falls out all over again... ever have those "tongue moments"... sure we all have!  Ever watched a friend a loved one as they went to say something and our gut just knew, just knew how it was goin to come out of their precious mouths once that tongue engaged and we were helpless to stop it once it got in motion, unable to reach them in time to kick them under a table and reset the brain while stopping the tongue from just falling from their lips with words that follow and become a "oh my God I can't believe they said that" moment?

Better yet, have you watched it happen with those politicians... oh sure, we are seeing that all the time aren't we? silly me, what was I thinking, there is always a photo to capture it that has not been photo-shopped to reflect our own personal agenda or causes that is still true in the world even today I do believe! Tongues still way, and photos still capture the "real deal"... Have you ever wondered what folks say once they see the final photo?  Oh I sure do... that's where many of my thoughts flow from!

And it just cracks me up...

Tongues and those they fall from the mouths of are just astounding at times; mostly they are the cutest from the critters, the children I have to tell you. That is where the joys lie, the photos are the grandest, and we must include some of the athletes as they strive for excellence and set their tongues just so to make that shot on the courts... after all think of Michael Jordan and that tongue as he became the best of the best, mouth open and tongue often seen... Focus, determination and the will to succeed. Watch those on the basketball court, in other sports and you will see it... as if it is their muscle to focus their eye on the prize perhaps... started as a youth and just kept going. Just amazing how that tongue of Michael Jordan has worked for him through the years... now when he uses it to speak, kids around the world stop and still listen as do the professional players that still try to exceed his records...

Others tend to use their tongue as torque when turning wrenches, when trying to thread a needle, when working on a computer project, the list and the possibilities just keep going...

Do you brush your tongue when you brush your teeth? When you were a kid did you wonder what that little "hangy down thing" was back there, and why you had those itty bitty bumps on your tongue and why certain things tasted certain ways on different parts of your tongue?

 The tongue:
Know that it is not meant to clean your ears;YOU control it; and at times you will step on it, can be used to speak words of great kindness and inspiration or cut like a knife... it's just that strong.

  1. Your tongue has 3,000 taste buds.
  2. The tongue is the fastest healing part of the body.
  3. The tongue is the strongest muscle in your body, and most flexible.
  4. Is the only muscle with taste sensors. A human has more bacterias in the mouth than a dog.
  5. Close to fifty percent of the bacteria in the mouth lives on the surface of our tongue.
  6. Your tongue is germ free only if it is pink. If it is white there is a thin film of bacteria on it.
  7. Like fingerprints, everyone’s tongue print is different.
  8. Your tongue is the only muscle in your body that is attached at only one end.
  9. Not all our taste buds are on our tongue; about 10% are on the palette and the cheeks.
  10. A chameleon’s tongue is twice the length of its body.

It can be most entertaining to make faces with, to try and tie a cherry string with in a bar over a bet; or to teach kids how to curl it, turn it upside down or side to side... It can also be a great thing to roll it around in your mouth while thinking before speaking to remind yourself that what comes from the "tip of your tongue" will fall on ears and then be to late to take back... So the expression "gnaw on it" may help in many situations as you now have your tongue in thought ...
Of course there are also those who indulge themselves in "eating tongue"... *(shudder the thought)*

If by chance you are one of those, the above is for you!  There are also those that forget about common sense when it comes to their tongues and decide to try something other than talking, kissing,

licking, tasting, making faces, and just go to extremes and often have to enlist the help of friends to for interventions;

So for today, take care of your tongue,

think before you engage it, and enjoy  the brilliance of it and its many uses!
Laugh ... it's a tongue lickin day

I am truly laughing out loud here.. I LOVED reading the blog at this wee hour of the morning.. truly, this rates as one of my most favorite blogs ever... no , not tongue in cheek.. you can check if I m truthing or fibbing by looking at my stuck out tongue, if a black line is visible down the center, I am fibbing !!
my wisdom keepers used this tongue checking method often, it always amazed me that they ALWAYS could detect even the tiniest fib...
I have often found it difficult to hold my tongue, literally and also figuratively..
yep, this faithful tongue of mine has sure gotten me into some uncomfortable spots over the years...
before I turn off the light, say my angel prayers and call it a night I will try once more to conquer touching my nose while sticking out my tongue..
Thanks Doc for all you do for us ~
your humor and truths entwined are awesome ~ I am so happy I took the few minutes to read before I call it a day ~
sweet dreams to all !!
hugging my angels, sign me,
♥ A.
