CANCER SUCKS ~ Part IV & SuperBowl SUnday

So Many Colors
So Many Cancers

Awareness Ribbons have become quite popular through the years, we see them everywhere! I suppose the first recorded ribbon was in the early 1900's prompted by a song and was yellow, but ribbons first came into popularity with the AIDS awareness ribbon in the 90's. Of course, my take on all of this...
Is that ribbons have grown from the wonderful ritual that once was commonplace when mourners would wear a black band across their arm at funerals, a symbol of their grief. It was a symbol to allow all to see and recognize that someone had lost and was grieving someone precious in their lives. It would be worn to the store, in restaurants, wherever the griever might be, a simple black band on the bicep for all the world to see and recognize as the universal symbol that the world had lost a precious member of society and the community...

Because of the popularity of the AIDS ribbon, now recognizable to all everywhere... colors were born to represent about everything... now there are multiple things that share the same colors and it is important to know what the colors do represent!

Awareness Ribbons I view as threads of hope, Universal connections to each other... ways to reach out and start a conversation and connect with another...

There are many tears in the many colors... reminds me of the storms of life, the many tears and the rainbows that sometimes appear after great storms... perhaps these ribbons are those rainbows of hope in awareness, in conversation starters with others, sharing your stories, your struggle, your journey by letting others know  when they ask... "what does that ribbon mean?"

What an appropriate end to the series on cancer
Ribbons, I have many, worn them all, for many.
Loved and lost them all to CANCER, AIDS, ALZ,
PROSTATE, etc. Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon in the Sky" was the honor I placed on a panel for the AIDS quilt in the 80's. I whet my breath today for Debbie & her husband Earl, lost to the disease, way back when. SUPER BOWL 2010 !
Life goes on.............. EyeScream !

I had no idea what all the colors meant. Whew... Thanks for the edification. I know I won't be able to pull all that info out of my hat when I see the next ribbon, but.... I might just prompt me to ask the wearer, and allow them to tell or retell their story. Once again, I too can contribute to healing someone's heartaches. Wouldn't it be nice to just remember to reach out with all we learn from these blogs and turn it into positive momentum for others. Thanks Dr SES.

I enjoyed your blog about cancer and I did not know there were so many ribbons and what they mean. I am very familiar with cancer as I have taken care of several family including husbands with cancer. I am also a Hospice Vol. and have been for many years. It is so sad to lose someone especially if they are family. A few years back there was a lot of suffering with Cancer, thank God there is medicene to help with the pain. Thank you for all of your good information and advice. May God Bless you and keep you well.

This blog so beautifully compliments the "Cancer Sucks...Care Bear...tattoo."
Perhaps...not every soul wishes a tattoo.
However...ribbons offer endless possibilities.
Besides wearing them...we can tie them around our trees, adorn our mailbox, and simply watch them dance in the winds. ( Watching our painful memories be taken away in the wind )
I will ask others about the ribbons they wear...and pray others ask me about my ribbons. Oh...we can wear so many.
My bare trees are decorated with ribbons and one neighbor has already asked me about the ribbons! It was great as we listened to each others stories.
You do seem to know your music.....
Isn't there a song, " The answer my friend is blowing in the wind..the answer is blowing in the wind...." You managed to end a very challenging and painful series colorful inspiration.
