SNOW ~ SNOW ~ SNOW

Just Walk Between The Mountains of Snow
And Come On In,
We ARE HOME!!!

SNOW, snow, MORE SNOW.... and this morning in Tarpon Springs, it is 44 degrees and a chill in the air; but a most remarkable sun is rising painting the sky with ribbons of a most spectacular pink and orange!

The cold and the snow is setting records across the east coast; what was initially viewed as winters wonderland is now being talked about as record breaking cold and depths of snow unheard of. DC is shut-down, the government closed now for 4 days; offices empty; folks without electricity!

Joan and Olivia reporting in from Maryland that there is no place to even shovel the snow anymore! The photo above proves that doesn't it? Neither of them tall enough to add to the mountains of snow seen in the pictures ~ ~

New Yorkers are taking advantage of the discounts on Broadway as they fill the seats to see "Wicked"!!!

And the newscasters are reporting from all over the place; folks on Facebook posting about the shoveling, the attempts at getting home from work, being stuck inside and going a bit "batty" from it all, thinking the once lovely snow is now much more than a pain in the "you know where", longing for the spring, longing to be anywhere but where they are!

Flights are delayed in record number... conferences are being cancelled all over the place, you know the conferences that have been scheduled for over a year? Keynote speakers that have been booked for a year in advance? Cancelled now secondary to the .... SNOW.

Our wildlife here in Florida is suffering the extreme cold as well. 400 Manatee were found dead yesterday and 40 gators as well secondary to the cold waters. The Pelicans appear to be starving and those great volunteers are on the ready and moving swiftly to render as much aide as possible. Good people, brave people lending a hand to the wild; attempting to help our feathered and swimming friends if possible to survive old man winter. I pray them success.

Kids are out of school: great for the kids, but wearing on the nerves of the parents and the day-care providers to be sure! But even the kids are beginning to tire of snowmen, snowballs and the cold weather...

But... there is good in all of this~

During times like this, we see the good, we look for the best in trying times right?

Take for example those many good hearted people that are lending a hand to their neighbors during this snow storm of 2010: those that are going to the doors of strangers, asking if they need groceries, asking if they can attempt to shovel, attempt to get medicines for them, attempt to call family for them, attempt to get a car unstuck with or for them, or just talk to them for a few minutes!

The resiliency of the human spirit is amazing and I am always touched by it. Shoveling parties in neighborhoods are becoming quite popular these days; folks coming together for the greater good to lend a hand, those that are unable to participate in the arduous task can make the hot chocolate, bake some cookies and offer some warmth and respite from the cold... each can participate in ways to achieve the goal.

Good things are happening during this snow of 2010; there hasn't been a homicide in our Nations Capital in a week~~~~ Now that is great news!

Whatever you are doing today, wherever you are today, I wish you warmth; I wish you hope and healing. I wish you enough and hope you will look for the beauty and the jar to be half full rather than half empty today.

Walk In Beauty!

This too shall pass. Hang in, hang on.... Even in the northern most climes the snow lets up. Sending warm thought. Snuggle in, email or call a friend or loved one when you are snowbound.
When it's cold, I they to recall all the hot muggy summers and remember dreaming of winter. Simple to say until you are snowbound like this. Make soup, sleep in, read a book and turn on some music. I personally like to write real old fashioned letters. Snail mail.. might not be able to get to the mailbox until the spring thaw but remember how much fun it was to get a letter in the mail, and how rare it is these days.

My husband ( now dead ) delivered mail for 31 years and always said he loved the look on the person's face when he hand-delivered a good old fashioned letter. People expect Christmas cards, Valentines, Birthday cards, etc....but nothing beats a real old-fashioned letter. You can even seal it with candle wax...oh the possibilities....
