~~~~~~~This Is It~~~~ Part II
Some days just take your breath away....
Is this one of those days for you or someone you may know? I was talking with a friend last night about the power of music and Michael Jackson's music. We all grew up together; listening, singing, dancing with wild abandon (ah, but to just bust a move like that one more time in my life!). Music is the universal language for so many, it touches the soul in a place where there is no space or time, it carries us away, and that can be seen so clearly when watching This Is It. The work of genius; perfection at its finest as each step is choreographed, each percussion and key tuned to a simmer.... but once perfection is there, the result is dazzling. And the effects are stunning and you are just gone for a moment, away from the cares of the day, the worldly affairs that once had your mind spinning. Escapism, maybe... That's what Michael hoped for all of us, he even says that to his dancers...
But let's dig a little deeper this morning.  I am again struck by one of the songs and the deeper meaning. I have always used music in my work, and during groups we have a night of music sharing. That is where and when the music brings those deep feelings and allows hearts to open to the gifts, the tears.... balm for the soul. Seems like it works kind of like aspirin, opening up clogged arteries if you will and freeing up the flow to promote body-mind-spirit connection! Music has been doing that for people since the beginning of time and when I think about it, really think about it; people that allow themselves to be touched by the music, by the words usually are better able to connect with body-mind-spirit.
I was thinking this morning about Michael singing "Man In The Mirror" and recalling writing about "The Warrior Within". Funny how I made that particular association with his brilliance isn't it. You've heard the expression, "shoot for the moon and you will often catch a star?". It doesn't matter if the star is shining brightly or falling... a star is a star! Or is it really.... where were we, ah yes... back to "The Man In The Mirror", and how you will enjoy that. As I was thinking about it, it came to me the association for our lives. I do believe that Micheal's music can give so much to so many if they would but just take the power of the music and apply it to their mind-body-spirit connection.
Perhaps today is your day:
"Gotta make a change for once in my life
It's gonna feel real good
 gonna make a difference
gonna make it right"
Now, if we just take the above and think about it, can we apply it? Think about where you are, right here right now....
"I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer
If you wanna make the world a better place Take A Look At YOURSELF and then make a change
Where better to start than with the "warrior within"? Today may in fact be the turning point, the day that you decide to be courageous and really look in your mirror, look deep into your soul.... And then you will take that moment one step further and believe in the core of your being that it is going to "feel good" because you have been the one to make that decision for you!
I wish you enough! Stay tuned, for part III of my inspirations from "This Is It" tomorrow.
How much closer to home than the Man/Woman in the mirror. The world changes with one person at a time. Well said Michael Jackson, and weel interpreted Dr. Showalter. I can only look in the mirror and change me, but I do believe the change I can make in me, can in some small way, make this world a bit better. That is my mission, as you say... right here, right now.
Thank You
