I'm just thinking... The What If's

Healing Heartaches: Stories of Loss and Life

The Gulf of Mexico
Godsons Just Loving Feeding those Seagulls
Til' They Get Close That IS!

Top of the morning! Just sitting here thinkin' this early morning about so many things, people, places...
Can't help but think about our Gulf; God knows never a more beautiful place to be... its waters changing from bluest of blue to emerald green depending on the day, the wind, the storm... or your mood I'm guessing...

But as we approach 59 days of the BP oil spill... I'm just thinking...
What were they thinking?
What are they doing?
When will it stop already?

Sitting here in my own little world, my paradise with hot coffee; the antics of the poms already amusing and delighting me...
BUT, so very worried about our beloved gulf, the dolphins and sea-life... those whose lives depend on fishing; on tourists to visit, those who walk and play on the beautiful beaches while enjoying our waters...

By UCLA Newsroom June 15, 2010 Category: Academics & Faculty

"The explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon offshore oil-drilling unit on April 20, 2010, killed 11 workers and led to the largest oil spill in U.S. history. The federal government estimates that more than 100 million gallons of oil have spilled into the Gulf of Mexico to date. UCLA has experts."

Our President looked quite presidential sitting behind that desk in the Oval Office didn't he? I liked it a lot actually. I really liked that he said he is "all over this BP crisis", and that he is holding them responsible...

PLEASE STOP THIS BP... NOW.  People come and visit Florida... [play in the gulf waters, spend your vacation money here...} it is beautiful I tell ya, just beautiful...

OK, don't people plan for the "What ifs"...

We can go to the moon right? We make plans for "what if"... what if the space suit has a rip, what if something happens while in space, what if we have to turn around or if something malfunctions... Folks are standing by; the best and the brightest are right there at the controls, at the ready to intervene in one hot second...
RIGHT???

We have brain surgeons/heart surgeons that get INSIDE a persons brain, get inside and hold hearts right? They have itty bitty micro thingys that actually go right in there with a team of highly paid brilliant others standing by, hands in and on... They rehearse... they are at the ready... they prepare for the what ifs... they held my heart for God's sake, they did all sorts of stuff... and knowing me, I could have jumped up and stomped; good that they were prepared for the "what if" ~

What if he/she wakes up and says "ouch", what if their arm flies up and slaps the instrument out of my hand, what if they start speaking in tongue and dancing off the table...
Those working in such high pressure, high skill and high risk professions must be ready... They are prepared for any and all types of emergencies ...
RIGHT???

There are people good and bad people building/have built NUCLEAR WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION....
They know what they are capable of .... don't ya think they have planned for the "what ifs'.... the maybes' the "OH Shit" moments that would affect the world as we know it???
Are you feeling me here???

There are young men and women being deployed into terrible places facing awful just awful cirucmstances... having to be prepared to shoot old people and little lovely children who may look friendly and may be ready to kill them... They are prepared for the "WHAT IFS"...

Maybe I just watch too much TV, but remember those movies where in the White HOUSE right there in our Nations' Capital... right there in the Oval Office there is a phone... Red I think...
That very phone for crisis, for the "Mr President it is the IF moment we have all planned for..." "Yes Sir I know it is 3AM, but you need to know our precious Gulf of Mexico in now being infected with a gazzilllllion gallons of oil and people have died and no sir we don't have a plan to stop it".

On a more personal level, we all often plan for the what if moments in our lives... Sometimes we plan well, sometimes it is rather in the moment.

Here in Florida we have entered the "Hurricane Season", the time once again of planning for the "what if"... Supplies, flood plane, flashlights, papers together, code names for family, full tank of gas... all that happy stuff... Happens each and every year.  The What if's...

Our Sea-life in the Gulf don't know how to plan for the "IT IS NOW" crisis... RUN, SWIM, FLY... they are dependent on BP, they are dependent on POTUS...
they are dependent on brilliance, on the military, on those who have dedicated their lives to this type of work, expertise...those many volunteers who are out there trying to help and rescue them from certain death...

And the oil continues to leak, rush, flood, contaminate, destroy, spill into our precious gulf... and we wait and we worry and we cry for all that are affected and infected... and then we get to hear the "top dog of BP" talk to us on prime time TV and tell us he has it under control, and that he is "sorry".

And someone or many someones did not plan for the
"WHAT IFS" and I cannot help but wonder, "why not"...

Planning for a catastrophe of this type would seem appropriate in my mind... Exxon/Valdez/Alaska comes to mind... way back when, I'm thinking maybe a sound plan in place would have been a place to start back then even, you know just in case, or for those "what if kinda moments"... or maybe lessons leaned from that tragedy that we all witnessed, and the particular boycott that Exxon felt deeply in their pockets afterwards...
Maybe it's me, but I'm all about being rather prepared particularly if it might have an impact on ... let's say someone else or... the world?

Why cannot BP offer some chump change, you know... a couple of million bucks to the brightest bulb burning out there at the Universities, the high schools, grade schools, sci-fi authors, video gamers, the retired, the regular folks... just offer it up on prime time t.v.... bring us your best solution, all potential solutions will be entertained, taken seriously... Give the country a try, extend some faith to everyone to be a part of the solution...

Be prepared for some to offer this up as my dear friend did:
and I quote: "Let's start with stuffing some of the CEO's head first in the hole and their deep pockets after ... perhaps the hole will get plugged quickly and the matter resolved"...
OK, I doubt she will get the money or that they will try her suggestion... but at least it was a suggestion...

President Obama, take a stand, stand tall, hard and for the people of our water, our soil, our land... Demand and follow through... The time of building consensus is past... Stay here on our soil... I know we have many crisis at hand, I get that your popularity is falling... all President's do... Send the VP if someone has to go somewhere... You said you would "kick ass"... DO IT NOW... Get a hotel, hang out on the gulf, hold them to the task at hand... I personally know a really good hard working man who can't find a decent job, call me, I will give you his name... he will work his butt off for you and for our beloved gulf...
But then again, from what the real folk say, BP ain't paying them either...
Stand up ... STOMP.... TAKE A STAND...

Save our Gulf waters, our beaches and those those trying like hell ... trying to make a life right here, right now...
Save our sea life and our precious waters and our precious citizens...

We need a working plan of action here... many are standing at "the ready"... many have been turned away from their efforts of helping. Our hearts are hurting for all, and meanwhile we are hearing of comments such as "Louisiana is not the only place that sells shrimp" from a BP rep!  Yep, that built a lotta confidence and good will, gotta tell ya, Facebook lit up like a Christmas Tree with that comment for several days.

I just have to believe there is someone who has this answer figured out, but just can't get through to the right person... Surely someone knows someone ... isn't that how all great things get done... persistence, faith, perseverance, and belief?
This is our country... This is the home of the free beause of the brave... our waters, our lives... STOMP... Take a Stand for our waters, our brothers and sisters and our sea-life...

The fire is burning brightly here, thoughts on the wind for all who gather here and then some... you know who you are!
My prayers are for our Gulf, our sea life and all those who are fighting the battles out there to save our waters, to maintain hope in adversity and know that there will be an answer and yes, we will prevail... We are united here and there...

We are warriors, we have our warpaint on for and about each other and this great country we call home.

Here's a link to one solution: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Broadcast/bp-excited-kevin-costners-oil-cleanup-machine-purchases/story?id=10916445
My sister was just telling me about this on Monday. Let's hope it helps.

I'm moving into new, higher paid position at work! Start training someone for my old job today. Very exciting. I am very grateful, as I know that many can't even find work. Thanks for your encouragement. For me, a lot of it has to do with believing in myself, which has always been hard. I'm finally STOMPING!!

Are there no machines that work like grease cups where they could suck the oil and water in, let the oil rise and scim it off, clean and recycle the water? I have a measuring cup with the spout at the bottom that skims grease from gravey, Why not a machine that does the same? Just askin,,,,

I watched the Presidnet last night too. Think we should stop off shore drilling for good. I clearly remember in the 70's huge discussions about alternative energy. Then the late 80's with the "oil" crises. Then again in the 90's so now 2010 and we are still doing energy with non sustainable products. Could the oil companies themselves be just so big that their lobbying stalls progress, or is all the talk about "going green" just talk? STOMP
Troubled by the spill. Hoping someone, something gets figured out soon. Strength to all the men and women in Tyvek working on the clean up underway. STOMP

Dr. SES, that is it, tell it like it is and go on with the help for the people, the Gulf, the animals and all the people whose livilhood is affected with this disaster. People it is time to stand behind our President, I dont care who you voted for President Obama is our president, dont think of what could have been with someone else in the office, stand with him and help with the issues. Enough of the criticism. This too shall pass. Just hope that BP gets what is coming to those greedy people who are still getting bonus and big retirements. They must pay and pay well. I do feel sorry for the little people who are managers of BP gas stations that some idiots are giving lots of grief. They are only people making a living running a gas station. Leave them alone and for Gods sake let them make a living. It is not their fault. Keep those blogs coming Dr. SES. Good day to all

I too watched POTUS on the tube last night--I was not impressed--He kept talking more about what they are holding BP responsible for rather than what plan they have to stop this...A cap? this is the best the USA can come up with? I think stuffing the hole with a few bodies of CEO's might work but why stop there? include the ones who approved the building and drilling of Deepwater. They turned a blind eye to the stuff that was wrong and we get to pay for it for a very looooong time. Alaska still hasn't recovered, and it's been over ten years now.

I hate what is going on with the Gulf oil spill...but I believe in the vast scheme of this is something much worse...and I don't believe a thing Obama says either...and I'm not being negative this is just reality...
Save the Gulf of Mexico!!!

I don't think the spill was malicious, poor planning though on the part of BP, the EPA, the oil industry and our own Gov't for not anticipating such a disaster until it is upon us. Why do we alwasy expect the Pres. to fix everything. There are lots of voices in the Gulf begging for the income to keep flowing from off shore drilling. It is too often about the money. BP is paying, but apparently that has not stopped the flow of oil into the water. I think ALL efforts must be focussed on stoping the spill, cleaning up the oil, and then creating a plan that will be in place the next time we have an environmental off shore disaster. In that order. Thanks doc for keepin it real. Thnaks for a place to raise our voices.
