ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL...My #51 the Beast IS

NOTICE THOSE INITIALS
ON THAT CHEEK?
SES
that's meeee~
My #1 Godson
#51 The BEAST
of
THE BOBCATS
 RADFORD HIGH SCHOOL
"Are ya ready for some football"

It's that time of the year... those youngsters and oldsters are out there sweatin, gettin bruised up and training like crazy for America's number one sport:
FOOTBALL

Oh boy... here we go, T.V's will be tuned in, doritos bought, beer on hand, Mt. Dew, Coke too... volumes turned up, arm chair quarterbacks at the ready, cell phone in hand, text finger ready...

And last night in a small town in Virginia a huge rival took place!
 AND
MY #1 Godson took the field for the first time on the Varsity Team
as a proud
BOBCAT...
against the Pulaski County Cougars
Yep,
Radford HS Bobcat #51 = THE BEAST
I tried my best to get a flight to surprise him for his first game, but it didn't work out, but I know he felt me right there in his heart and on his cheek!
Sure would have loved to have been down there on the field with my camera in hand to catch some great shots of the team.
Figured I could have "talked my way" on the field while promising the coach some "wicked cool" shots in trade for a jersey!
What a deal I reckon!
Friday Night Football
Wow, that evokes strong memories...
Home town feel, nothing quite like it~
Do you remember?
The sense of community, of fellowship, of town rivals before gang activities that bore guns/drugs/threats of safety... so much has changed through the generations and the years.
So many times I have watched that television show of
Friday Night Lights
small towns across this nation where folks show up and show out to watch the youth play football!
The Main Event.
Here in Tampa we have trouble filling the stadium for the bucs... seems past performances and the economy is making it more difficult for folks to rally around their team... Not sure which is worst:
the economy vs. the team
Sure would be grand to have a team worth rooting for again though! Here, there, somewhere folks are gearing up...
Washington Redskins, Eagles, Dallas, Bears, Vikings, Dolphins, 49ers, Bengels, Saints, Giants, Bucs, Jets, Chargers, Falcons, Baltimore, Kansas City, USF, Gators, Carolina, Steelers,
uhhh, lets' see, gosh it's been awhile
I'm drawing a blank here... LOL
You get the idea, it's
time for some
FOOTBALL
pigskin
the time of year where men/boys/girls
run back and forth/tackle maim/hurt each other
on a field and make hugE  huge
HUGE SUMS OF MONEY in the NFL/AFL while
others go shopping on Sundays so they don't have to watch it!!!
AND
millions of dollars are spent on advertising during those times...
dratz, I wish I had invented advertising
I'm cracking myself up this morning already!!!

Remember when? Got stories to share here of those memories with us? I would love to see them!

We do love a good rival on that I am certain, and from what I hear... last night in Virginia there was a rival indeed... the battle of the "bridges" as those Bobcats had to cross the New River Bridge to venture into "Cougar Country" for the game!
They were expecting 10,000 to show out for that game of High School Football last night!
That is more people than the population there.
And "Oh what a night" it was...

The stakes were high: who would claim the "bridge" (The New River Bridge that separates the two counties, the two teams)/the bragging rights?
THE SCORE:
BOBCAS 32 - COUGARS 29
with 4:29 left in the game and the Clougars have the ball... the tension mounts...
My phone is blowing up with texts...
Word comes in that my Godson is "limping badly" but has been in the entire game (that darn knee)
and then we are down to 59 seconds and
and
THE BOBCATS GET THE FOOTBALL!!!
AND
THE BOBCATS WIN
THEY OWN THE BRAGGING RIGHTS
AND
 ~ THE BRIDGE~
THE phone rings and the hollering
I hear is incredible...
OMG
 ~ I am exhausted ~
Sure would have loved to see my Godson ring a bell or ten last night ~
BUT
One thing is certain my friends

It's football season!
All across our great nation, from the little kids suiting up, shoulder pads on they are running with wild abandon and having a ball;, to college games and the NFL, the fans scream, the tailgaters revel in the day, while some of us take to our couches. We sit quietly while some holler and yell just knowing that our voices are heard through the wires...

So for this first game last night: what a game it was... I had my BOBCATS t-shirt on... and I waited and I waited to hear the results... right here from FL... tried to get a flight to surprise him, but that didn't work out ...  but I was there in spirit from right here on my couch... you would have thought I was on that field... whew, I am tired... and those kids went home across the New River Bridge with a trophY AND BRAGGING RIGHTS!
THEY OWN THE BRIDGE...
heehe... I've crossed that New River Bridge many a time myself!
So has COB...
~ ~ ~  ~ /^\
D'Vante is powerful, he is focused and I would not want to be hit on a field by him, no way no how, no day! I stay in his heart though, that makes me as powerful as he is... ah, it's good to be that strong ~

On the field, he is a force to be reckoned with.

The spirit of the Bobcat
 *(NOTE TO RADFORD HIGH SCHOOL)
please contact D'Vante's Godmother for permission to use this blog/photographs ... cos' I just know you are going to want it for this years anual/aka yearbook
Just a thought:

The Bobcat represents patience... imagine that, patience among young kids!
Warriors of all ages, little and big, on a football field, kids just beginning to discover the wonderment of life, living and all that is and will be. The Bobcat although a rather solitary creature, (no wonder kids hole up in their rooms with music blaring!), is also quite a playful and powerful character, serving as a great reminder for all of us not to take things or ourselves too seriously at times.

This totem and this Radford Virginia team reminds us to be fully aware, to be present right here, right now; to be purposefully present, to be mindful knowing that in order to get what we want we must be willing to plan.
To get what we really want we must adapt our thinking, expand our knowledge, and above all else we must be respectful of all people and all things. {Read that again, slowly players}

To live the best life possible on the field and in our lives we must believe in the power of self, the power of love, the power of kindness and faith.

Yet a powerful reason that our educators must have the strength of warriors, the kindness of Mother Teresa and the patience of saints...

With that said:

GO BOBCATS; Play your hearts out, Do your best...

When your games are over, shake hands with your opponents, hug your brothers on the field.
Look to the stands and show your thanks to those who love and support you always!
Raise your helmets, beat your chest, look to the heavens, the Creator, the Universal Oneness
and give a
 "thumbs up"...
just take the time to show them some love, win/loss/tie.

Remember who you are, why you are where you are, hold on to faith that you will be all that you dare to dream....
FOCUS, play, pray, practice, patience
study hard...Believe
"who loves ya baby"{{{to Pluto and back}}}
Remember,
YOU are the Bobcats!

 The spirit of the Bobcat asks that you dig deep, Look deep within yourself, discover all that you want and need to become the best you;
living with honor and dignity and truth.
I expect great things from all of you and from all of us each and every day that we are blessed to live in this great country of ours.
Those there in Radford Virginia... the kids at Radford High School;
those BOBCATS...
the adults filling the bleachers supporting them and,
all of us....
Believe in the power of your dreams Bobcats...
and
NEVER EVER EVER GIVE UP OR GIVE IN ~
I'll be waiting for my #51 Jersey for the "Godmother" rooting for the Radford Bobcats from here in Florida ~ Pass that to the coach and Principal

STOMP with gratitude that we are... and that we stand UNITED... with an attitude of gratitude ~

Whoa ! I need a NAP after reading that blog !
I just LOVE football, go Bobcats !, Go SES !
In High School, Friday nite Football was just as you described. Our team, our spirit, our parents, teachers, coaches, etc. all displayed the ENERGY of the event. Fond memories of pep rallies, cheerleading, flagswinging, etc.
Will plow thru Saturday, may the SUN return
................ and be FIRM in the sky.

OH what a night it was in Pulaski County. The Bobcats came across the New River Bridge to Pulaski County. They were on a mission and what a wonderful time they had and will have the rest of the season. This was the icing on the cake. We had 4 men that had graduated from Pulaski Co. High School years passed jumped out of the airplane right into the middle of the field. What a sight to behold. The Bobcats had a big challenge and met it head on. Dvante #51 played against his friend of many years. His friend Zack is a fine player with Pulaski Co. and I know he too will go places. There is no way I could tell you the feelings at that ballgame. It was more than big time, it was a wonder to behold. Off course in my mine the officials should have thrown flags against the Cougars a few times, but you know folks I can tell you I cant talk today as I screamed and jumped up and down so much. I dont think I will see a game anytime soon that would come close to what that game was and is going to be. People just went nuts on both sides of the field. When I yelled ODE, he turned and gave us that little wave. Oh what a night. Pull up the Roanoke times newspaper in Roanoke Va. I had a early phone call saying did you see the paper, Dvante is quoted in the paper. Gotta go get one. Cant talk but will be better after coffee. Go Bobcats. Thanks for your blessings Dr. SES
